  • Hi bbq tom,

My name is Dov. Do you have an older sister?

  • bbq_tom, the way you write reminds me distinctly of someone else. It could of course just be a coincidence, but just to make sure.....you haven't got any photos of yourself hunched over a too-small-for-you Specialized Tricross Single have you?

  • Hahaha, no I ride a white/blue 531c Gazelle, and it's the correct size for me!

  • But you do write very well bbq tom so top marks for that.

Is the way I write really that important?! I'm feeling self-conscious.

  • Don't worry Tom. GA2G has some weird man-crush obsession with a forum member called Paul-Michel

  • Morning Balki.

  • Good morning mister w. Whats this all about then?

  • Something about bars, but as the little tyke has already said he is not old enough to drink I think that maybe he should stay clear of bars and maybe drink in a bus shelter.

I may have misread the thread.

A word of advice bbq tom. If you actually do have an older sister DO NOT tell Dov. PM me instead.

  • drink in a bus shelter.

i think thats my afternoon sorted.

  • People seem to complain that 15 / 20 miles is the max they can do with risers/flats.
Good to know that 20 is not the maximum mileage with risers. I will probably go for some flats or risers in the not too distant future.

Get some drops or something though.
Straights do get unpleasant after 20 miles or so.

But it's just something I have to deal with for the time being.

I've some nice drops, but in the middle of project on my Carrera Subway. So I can't use them yet... I'm looking forward to using them, getting me all excited and shit. Like a big stiffy.

Well spotted that man! That's saved me months of psychotherapy. ;)

Though I may still go for the therapy because its cool, ....apparently.

I've ridden over 20 miles in one hit on several occasions, and on a few occasions over 40 miles, all on risers, a couple on flats, both pretty comfortable, the one thing I did notice is though once you are doing more than 15 miles in one hit padded cycling shorts are a very good idea, anything over 20 miles and my arse was definitely feeling it the next day.
What i'm trying to say is, your milage is pretty miniscule, its not going to make a great difference to your comfort what bars you go for, I like risers and flats, its personal preference, it'll come down to "feel" more than anything, and what "feels" better for you.
On one of the 40 mile-ish rides a lot of the roads weren't exactly smooth, my arse was sore as fuck the next day for a few days, not pleasant, no chafing or anything, just felt really bruised, may have also been due to the shit saddle, these days I have a rather nice Fizik which feels damn comfy :)

  • drops drops drops drops ... you get a shitload more leverage when racing up hills! seeing where you're going is well overrated.

if speed is not an issue, and you want to sit back and look fashionable , then get risers.

Colour match you risers to your socks (visible inbetween your turned up jeans and your vans) for the complete look.

  • If I slack a bit at hills I just go a bit slower, don't worry about it.

Unless you're talking Swaine's Lane, slacking at that means you just stop dead.

  • Nah he writes much better, Paul-M never quite scanned I thought.

  • You want some one piece carbon road bars then cut them down to about 4 inches on each side of the stem.
