If true it would go for an absolute fortune.
Is this the most desirable bike in the world?

The "seller" must be a very funny person.
This photo has been on the web for 1000 times.
Last week a similar ad was on Marktplaats with description: "for sale: stolen bike"
It's a miracle that such a jerk can spell Eddy's name correctly. -

I doubt its true, that photo is of the bike that is in the Eddy Merckx tube station so it probably wouldn't be his to sell

Chaim from Eindhoven, who is on this forum, has placed a million Euro bid. People just using Marktplaats for a laugh, probably?

Jup, I did Mark.. The guy's a "fixed gear scene" hater and always puts these incredible bikes up on Marktplaats. He's not for real..
If you have such a bike, and willing to sell it,
- you would know what you're talking about. (the ad is full of BS..)
- you would have made some pictures yourself
- you would put it up on E-bay
- you would know what you're talking about. (the ad is full of BS..)

So what happens at the end of the auction if it's won by someone not aware it's a hoax?
-
• #14
Nothing.. On Marktplaats you are not obliged to buy an object.

This is a total nerd thing to write, that I can't believe I'm writing, but I can't help myself:
I touched the "real thing" at the Harrogate Show in 1976...yes, I am that old....when it was on display there. The actual bike had drilled handlebars (yes, you read that correctly) and the holes then taped over with sellotape (yes, you read that correctly too) and was already pretty battered after 4 years of doing the rounds of trade shows. It looked nowhere near as prstine as the one on show in the tubestation, which no doubt was a spare bike.....
There you go....I told you I was sad....

On the same day, I got Reg Harris signature in my autograph book...what a day!!!

Ah, all makes sense now!
The record was set on a (then) futuristic mountain bike, whilest this classic track bike actually belongs to 'David'thanks for that.
Seems the legendary Eddy Merckx is selling one of his bikes!
