Rider Down Forum

  • It's here:
    http://www.londonfgss.com/forum40.html

If anyone knows of an accident or incident please make a thread in there.

The thread title should be in this format:
    YYYY-MM-DD - Incident Type, Location

YYYY-MM-DD = Date that it happened. We're putting the dates in the titles so that they become sortable in the forum.

Incident Type = "Rider Down", you can vary this with any facts that you know such as "Rider Killed" or "Possible Rider Down", etc... just tell us what you believe has happened, and "Rider Down" implies a lack of knowledge about the outcome.

Location = Street or junction that the incident occurred on. We're putting the locations in the title so that a scan or search can reveal places that appear to have a higher risk than other places.

The purpose of putting them all in one forum is this:
    1) To assist other people with the collection of much needed data
    2) To allow the RSS feed for that forum to be an alert system

I hope it helps in some ways even though it's grim.

  • it say's i don't have permission to access that link? I don't have a 'rider down' to post, just might be the same problem for others?

  • I can see the link fine, (Chrome browser) and I think it's a good idea David & Digger.

  • No permission here, also on chrome

  • If you go to General, and where you usually would find the Private forum, there's now a Rider down forum next to it.

+1, no permission, I'm on safari.

  • Hmmm... ah, different server... caching... wait a moment.

  • Try now... I think you guys are on Neptune and I created the forum on Triton and hadn't remembered to flush Neptune's cache.

Could we have a link in the masthead?

  • No space under "Forums" (depends on screen size, but what is in there is the maximum for over 70% of users).

None of the other headings seem applicable.

Not sure what to do there. So lacking an obvious answer I'm going to wait until something becomes clear.

  • great idea, i am accessing it fine.

  • Everything is fine now (Safari, Mac OSX)

  • Good idea Digger. Do use stats like this for work or is it study?

  • I'm a cycle instructor, we tell clients it's safe to cycle and illustrate it with the sort of figures CTUK and the LCC use, I want to see a study which uses a methodology which is sound and then I want the safety of all to improve...

    amateur.

  • Ha!

    Banned.

    :P

Cool. Just wondered where you were coming from wrt the info.

  • i hate the fact that there are 5 pages on there :(

  • Grim isn't it. But I think it's really an excellent idea. I saw the post [I think from Digger] and it raises some excellent points. Also thoroughly well done [presumably to VB?] for actually doing the work and trawling through and re-organising everything, must have been an unpleasant task :(

  • I think that while seeing these 'Rider Down' threads is upsetting, it's good that people are paying attention to what's going on. Even though these incidents appear here without being put into perspective, it is worth remembering that Londoners make millions of journeys every day, and cycle journeys account for more than five hundred thousand--by conservative estimates. There are probably many more than that. That doesn't make each individual incident any better. They have to be reduced and what the Transport Select Committee recently called 'the culture of complacency' must be ended. But progress is currently being made every year, and the more modal shift occurs towards pedal cycling, the safer things are becoming.

  • Good work Velocio.
