I came to Paris for the weekend with my missus, she used to live here, so knows her ways pretty well.
Most people we've been with are either Brits or Americans(!!?Paris is ]PACKED[ with Americans!), and so far have seen quite a few fixieskiders around.
Paris have these rental bikes, so private owned bikes are not the majority (or at least you don't get to see as many as the rental ones). We were given addresses by her friends who also ride (non-fixed), of ateliers du velo, these are not shops but workshops.... only tomorrow I can post something about this, sunday means nothing opens here apparently. BTW, (@ the OP) there are no cheap things in Paris, let alone hotels, hostels, anything.
There's no way things like East London, I know 'cause i live in Crackney!!... here if you were to compare that would take a bit further from the city, so if you want to be realistic, get a cheap hotel, like mine, £80 per night with BF inc. Walking distance from *Gare du Nord *, main avenue so perfect to cycle around. We didn't bring our bikes since it's my lady's BDay... but def bringing it next time.
