Next year I will be going to sixth form and plan to bike there and back everyday, rain or shine. It's a 5.5 mile commute, 3.5 miles of which are out of town. The sixth form is in Cambridge so the area is very flat, although there are a couple of small hills on my route. I currently cycle a similar (slightly shorter) route for bike polo and the like 4 times a week (my polo bike is permanently locked up nearish the court).
I'm running 71.5 gear inches and plan to go brakeless when/if I feel more confident with skips. I am currently riding Charge Bowl bars (track imitation drop bars, shallow drop). I do go on longer rides, so if I do get a set of risers/flats I will combo them with a stem so I can switch between the two sets of bars easily and quickly. I've had a 4 mile ride with some 17" width risers, and found them slightly too narrow when sprinting - would 18" or 19" be much better?
I haven't got the money to buy and try out a set of bars, so that is why I am asking here.
