  • U-lock Justice.

  • Just give them a nice chop to the kneck, it'll knock em out cold.
Good luck hitting the right spot though.

Make sure you do a similar sound as Arnold Schwarzenegger would do, it makes you stronger.

    =)

  • Edit (double post)

  • To be honest if I'd made the chose to start carrying something as a weapon I would not worry if that item was illegal or not.

Heard in a forum where self-defense discussions are the norm:

"It's better to be judged by twelve than carried by six"

    Bonkers, but I like it.

  • I left the marching band in Seattle, I'm afraid, they wouldn't fit in my luggage.

  • The equivalent discussion over on MTBR in the last few days ended up with most people arguing over what sort of firearm to carry how to carry it! The number of people saying carrying a gun while cycling was not something worth doing were in the minority and largely not American. Go figure.

The first step to effective self defence is learning to be aware of your surroundings, observe what is going on around you, where you are and where you intend to go, and to avoid putting yourself in potentially serious situations to begin with. So many people I see in London with headphones in, reading the paper, whatever, are almost completely ignorant of the world around them and consequently look surprised when the bus nearly runs them down or they suddenly find themselves closer than they might like to be to a group of dodgy looking characters.

Learn to understand your surroundings and move accordingly and you'll probably never need to apply any physical self defence.

  • If you're really worried get one of these, and add some locks.

...I would'nt cycle along canal paths on one though. Rolling you into the canal would be pretty tempting.

I've read threads like that on bikeforums as well, people saying the like to ride with a gun in their jersey pocket so people don't mess with them. Such a cultural difference. Land of the paranoid.

Put an outboard on it and that could also be a interesting way of making a hasty retreat from confrontation too...

Tommy fancy joining me in my new commercial venture.

I'm thinking kevlar cycle vests, with the traditional three pockets on the back, and in a range of velo-esque colours. Maybe Giro de italia pink.

Could do the pocket slogon thing too.

    Armed - and - jumpy

  • I have one of these in my bag..

I'm in, we can package every jersey with some caffeine pills too.

    better safe than sorry.

  • nah what he is suggesting i'm guessing is that the person encouraging the person to tool up would also be guilty of inciting someone to be in possession of an offensive weapon.

the grannymaimer would still be just as guilty.

would be too much of a fucker for the cps to prove the incitement in my view. too far displaced in causality.

  • I don't think being a cyclist makes you any more susceptible to attack. Both times I've had bikes nicked they have been burglaries from my shed, and all the times I have been attacked in the street weren't to steal anything but just by mindless idiots who had a problem with the fact that I didn't dress like them.

We all like watching those youtube clips of little scrotes who get served by someone who they didn't know was a kung-fu master or whatever, but if someone wants to nick your bike off you and you end up getting into a fight then you increase your chances of getting stabbed or whatever.

There have been too many incidents of people being stabbed/killed for their mobile phone or designer baseball cap or whatever. Sure I'd be pissed off if my bike got nicked again and I'd wish death on the scrotes that nicked it but I'd rather lose a bike than get stabbed.

  • "'ere! you ain't a marchin' band are you. No marchin' bands allowed in 'ere"
    uncomfortable shuffling
"No mate, no marching bands here."
    honk
    parp
    "shut up Wilson!"

    Haha! Repped!
