I ride 185mm on my singlespeed MTB and im only 182cm, it makes my tread much more powerfull when standing up in the pedals.. i have tried a 175mm too, and there is a big big difference!

I ride 180mm cranks on my road bike but I'm really tall and it was for hilly sportives I got the long cranks. Use 165mm on my track bike and wouldn't want to use any longer

Nik Bowdler, current BBAR champ uses 165mm cranks pushing THAT 77T chainring..

Do my eyes deceive me or is that 650c front and rear though?
Or is he a monster? -

He's 5'11". Taller than me and I ride 172.5mm.

Don't think so, as that's a standard Felt TT frame which presumably suits 700c wheels. Still a monster to turn that gear though. -

If they are 700c then he is more than 5 11 surely, as he looks huge on that bike?
You can use whatever length cranks you want as you apparently get used to whatever you have. Mike Burrows did a few experiments with very short cranks and low gears as opposed to long cranks and a high gears. (the short cranks allow higher rpm which gives same speed as lower rpm long crank with higher gear)
Only one man's opinion but he reckons as long as you don't change between bikes of a 145mm cranks and a 175mm it isn't noticeable after a few days.
