KATTT - is it available at the end of August? I'm cycling there with a friend- last weekend of the month... if not, it's to the good faithful boat hostel...
probably go to berghain if you're there. PANORAMA...
here's a pic to make you laugh if you've been...
Taking a picture of their bouncer was no mean feat... he is fierce...

hello traveling friends... just throwin' this out there for anybody who may be interested in heading to berlin this summer,
i am renting a one bedroom flat in prenzlauer berg, and i am going to be off traveling in other parts of great europa for a pretty substantial amount of the summer (about 4 weeks total probably). this place is just gonna be sitting empty during that time, and i'm poor, and i also like when i can get a good deal, so if anybody wants to stay there while i am off galivanting keep it in the back of your head, 15 euros a night (which covers my rent), bang, your own flat with a little balcony, a block from a park, a mile from the river, pretty damn sweet. it can really only accomodate two people who like sharing a bed... but yeah.. if you're lookin' to take a cheap trip to deutschland, lemme know.
prost ! :-D
Hey Kattt,
Is the offer still standing? I tried PMing you ....

yeah the bouncer is the most well known face in berlin ... guess why, but he also does n1ce pics.

and for those who want to travel with their bikes ... watch out for the law... brakeless driving could lead to a long walk, cause the cops take your bike away. ATM they run a campaign against the local fixed scene ( it's illegal to drive brakeless in good'ol Germany and now the number of fixed bikes reached a critical mass there, were the officials took notice. there has to be done something ... let's ban it!)

He probably just thought you were letting LFGSS down.

Sounds interesting. Going to a concert at the velodrome in December, which is perhaps not the best time to be visiting the city for the first time. Got a couple of days to kill so maybe that is the place to go - I'm going to be wearing black, perhaps I'll have to pack some bondage gear too.

went for a weekend there last year and spent about 18 hours in bar 25....the most amazing place on earth at the time, were supposed to close it down i think but it's still kicking.
-

yeah 25 has a closing down party every summer. i think this year is final though... the area's been bought by a developer and they got approval to build.

Hey Jean Mi, I've also just moved to Berlin. I've tried getting together with people from berlinfixedgear but seems to be hard work. I'll get in touch once I got my bike sorted.

To find a flat for rent, you might want to look at the classifieds at berlin.kijiji.de or kleinanzeigen.zitty.de. "Suche Nachmieter" or something similar means that people want to move away and look for somebody taking over the rental contract. There are also companies/offices that offer searching a flat for you ("Makler"), but they will charge a provision for that service.
The easiest way to find a flat within the classified sections is to repond quickly and make immediate dates. When I moved to Berlin, I prepared a list of open offers from the classifieds, phoned the people moving away, made dates, got on the train and cycled through Berlin for about a week visiting about 25 apartments. Then signed a contract. Lived in some of the cheap hostels that week. Wasn't really fun, but effective.
@efc:
Getting in touch with other fixed riders will probably not be easy. Some "poseurs" don't want too close contacts because they fear the competition. Active messengers frequently don't have the time for more private activities. And the other ones just do their jobs (whatever they're doing) and use their bikes as a transportation utility and not as a cult object.
Greetings from advanced #25, just another Berlin messenger...

Berlin is awesome! I'd say definitely check out Tacheles (an art squat on Oranienburger strasse). Other than that, I had a good time at bar 25 (which I think has closed down now) and Cassiopeia (a bar down an alley way with a climbing wall/skate park/trees)
Here are some tips a friend gave me when we went over in July:
My really favorite bar is the 8mmbar, it s for rock music, cccp is cool too, kaffee burger is a legend, verry funny, sanatorium at frankfurter allee for technom cool too
open air bar : club der visionäre near badeschiff, and bar 25, the place tosee, befor it s close. near ostkreuz you have other underground location with not really adress
i will have a look and tell you what s up! The best of the best club for techno is of course berghain-panorama bar, the best time to go in is sunday (the party is going fromn sathurday to sunday evening)
fleamarket and see cool people after party : mauerpark fleamarket at sunday, subway eberswalderstr, this park (mauerpark) is a cool place also without market, cool view, little distroyed, live music...
fleamarket at boxhagener platz at sunday too, in the friedrichshain area
you have an other flea market in treptowerpark, near badeschiff (bar, club, swimmimg pool on the river) and club der visionäre (after club on the water, for free), the market is sathurday and sunday
near from treptower park you have a cool place called "Sowjetische Ehrenmal ", it s in the park, and it s typically like russia in the second war, monumental, incredible perspective, perfect for sunset
cool street for shopping and see people : kastanien allee and oderbergerstrasse in prenzlauer berg. Beautiful is the judish cimetery in the schönhäuserr allee street , subway senefelder platz, beautiful too the zionkirchplatz.
cool street too : oranienstrasse in kreuzberg with a lot of bars, cool bars at kottbusser tor : möbel ölfe, monarch. In kreuzberg other cool street is schlesische strasse (the street is going from kreuzberg to treptower park.
at tuesday and friday you have turkish market near from "landwehr canal" river, it s only for food but it s funny and typically kreuzberg
