Getting your bike sprayed...

  • Firstly I'd like to apologise for adding a new thread...I know not for what I do!!!

My needless new thread is asking the question on what should i be aiming off for to pay to get my frame resprayed?? Its my first project so wanna make it good ish!!

I just want it white in a strong hard wearing coat, I've just about finished sanding it off (by HAND!! thumbs are killing me now!!) so its down to the metal and ready for its make over!!

The local shop said about taking it to a local car body shop, what are my other options??

I'm basically after prices...I'm on a budget, thanks to roy pinks (http://www.roypinkcycles.co.uk/) for my free brake block!! and everything else I've just salvaged and "borrowed"....

  • you should have used some paint stripper.

I read on a google search that it may effect the respray??

  • Get it powder-coated.

  • Get it powder-coated.

Whats that gonna set me back mate? and who does it?

Google bob jackson cycles....75 for a plain spray....

  • try and find a private company, as they are usually more open to deals as they know how much they can take off and still make a profit and also want all the trade they can get.

Like Mr Hoops says, Armourtex in Hackney.

Powdercoat has a more limited range of colours compared to wet spray, by as you only need a white - it is definitely the way to go.

If you are after a 'strong hard wearing coat' nothing really comes close to powdercoating, it is tough as old boots, go and look at the white finish on your fridge/washing machine, that right there is powdercoating.

You also have the advantage of speed, wet spray will need a few days - at least - to cure, even then it will not be fully hardened for weeks - with powdercoating the frame is coated in powder using an electrostatic gun then baked in an oven . . so you can drop your frame off in the morning and - if you ask them nicely - pick it up in the evening with a super tough coating.

They are nice people to deal with, call them.

yes, but as i understand it in these matters ( wet spraying ) - you get what you pay for.
