the fitting of the saddle clamp in this manner helps to give a more forward riding position and puts you closer to the vertical line of the bottom bracket if that is required/preferred.

No-one's offended dilster. I wanted to show you lots of bikes, with similar old-fashioned geomtry, set up this way. coppiThat decided to put it into words for you. I used to think the exact same thing, then I learned that it was done like that in the 'good old days' (eek).
Can't believe no-one's bought this, really. Makes the Pashley Guvnor look silly when you can buy actual old things rather than faux reproductions.

Yeah, I thought £200 posted was a pretty fair price.
I've got some nos Bluemels mudguards I can throw in. Yellow I think.
Or some more period white ones, which are quite fragile, but more in keeping. -

22" center to top. Seat tube.
22.5" center to center. Top tube.
GB super hood rapide levers.
GB coureur plus calipers.
5 pin BSA chainset.
Front alloy weinmann rim with large flange hub.
Rear Dunlop Special lightweight steel rim with gear/fixed hub.
Brooks B15. Bit tired, but still very usable.
Bluemel's feartherweight pump.
Nicely shaped alloy bars.
Strata alloy seat post.
Original head badge and paint. With traces of gold box lining.
Excellent Michelin 26 x 1 1/4 tyres.
Pedals clips and straps.
