Knog Bullfrog lights

  • Got a pair of Knog Bullfrogs from Sprocket Cycles earlier. Anyone else got some? How the f*k do you change the batteries, and is the stretchy strap durable? It looks a bit thin, hopefully its stronger than it looks.

Way better than the shite cateye lights I've put up with for the past 4 years though. They've seriously been doing my head in, flimsy brittle plastic, shite mounts that fall apart, and if they accidentally fall they come apart and you lose the batteries. etc. Glad to get rid of the bastard things. And glad to have something I can quickly swap between bikes...

  • hipster cysts.

  • Stop quoting bikesnob ffs! They're better than the cateyes I was using, & I'd rather have 'hipster cysts' than some brittle fragile shite that causes me bare frustration.

  • bullfrogs would be a mean cyst.

  • I've got them but I've got no idea how u change the batteries.

I find them very good and easily transferable like u said.

When they're not on the bike they're awkward to hold and have in your pocket.

  • no one here knows how to change the battery on a knog and no one here's ever had one last that long enough to worry about it. the worst cullprit is the frog on the right of pic 1. all the LED circuits are exposed..water gets in easy hence they get fucked. the same is true of the gekko.

the speedo and the toad in pic 2 are better as everything is encased...so mostly frogs and similar are disposable but others might well end up having the battery problem you're concerned about.

    otherwise great lights!

    ps. nice plagiarism busting

  • I've had two frogs, and I've managed to break the straps on both of them way before the battery went, but they lasted a fair while.

  • Did you send them back? They have a 2 year warranty and the snapped strap is an inherent design fault - basically making them unfit for purpose and you should be able to get a replacement pretty easily under the sale of goods act. Knog's website says to contact your local distributor for warranty replacements.

I also think people who have bought these lights and had them break should complain to Knog about their faults. They're obvious faults that should have never existed in the first place unless designed by a myopic toddler, but with some feedback Knog might change the design on future models.

Since I've only had them a day I can't really comment on how good/shit they are despite the obvious faults, but knowing about the warranty at least gives me some peace of mind. To be fair, I'd rather have the knog mounting system that might snap, than the annoying cateye mount that left me mildly infuriated....

Are there any better lights for about £40 a pair? The alternative was these (the ones in sprocket are identical but with different branding):

Not sure about them though... might just save up and get some Fenix torches...

  • I had the Knog Frogs front and back which served me fine in Glasgow on my commute with daily pouring rain, never stopped working. Forgot to take them off one day and they got nicked. Wasn't too happy with the power anyway (which was to be expected from 1 LED only). Went to Lock 7 which have a pair of front/back 3 LED lights, waterproof and with batteries for £9. They are much brighter and the brackets are quite thin and small so don't get in the way easily. Don't really see the point to spend more than £20 on (security) lights, ie. lights to be seen but not really to lighten up pitch black country streets.

  • lock 7? just googled "lock 7" lights and found f--k all... :/

  • that smart rear superflash is BRIGHT. i got one for a ladyfriend and its so bright you it kinda dazes you if you look directly at it.

i got a 5 led electron 'backupz' light (frog light copy) and its really good but i don't know how the mount system compares to the frog lights, its essentially a rubber band. had no problems yet with it and the battery is easy to change when you need to.

  • to change the battery on a bullfrog you need to stretch the silicon from around the clip bit on the body of the light, and pull the hard plastic inner section out through the hole. it's a bit of a bitch getting it all back together, but that's how it's done.

Lock 7 is a shop at the bottom of London Fields.

  • the skink jus died on me today . . .
