  • this happened earlier today when veLLo was riding (i think) on his way to work.

he is fine as he says he was going slowly.

please add sympathy and solutions to this thread. so far he has had a quote of 40.00 to replace the downtube.

later he will update with the full story in his own inimitable style,,,, i am sure.

    vintage holdsworth.

  • ouch!

  • Oh no!

    Sorry to hear about that.

    Hope you are ok Loic?

  • sorry to see this. I hope that you are fine Loic :)

  • Yikes!
Glad to hear no other damage resulted! As for solutions...? No idea I'm afraid, other than replacing the tube. It'll need a respray too... Bah.

  • Oh Loic! Quelle domage!

  • thinking about it, would the top tube have taken a bit of flex out of shape also,, so maybe the top lug should be checked for creases

  • Ooof! Glad to hear you're OK, Loic... £40 doesn't sound too bad for a new tube... Hope to see the old beast back on the road soon...

  • Loic, you should team up with Uri Geller!

  • vintage oldsworth.

    Fixed.

  • Hi guys!

Thanks Coppi for initiating that post... And thanks all for your kind words!!

Yesterday at east I was complaning to Reeen that after I had finally got rid of an ennoying noise (external BB cup not tight) that another noise had appeared... some kind of sqwiking... I don't know if it was the tube that was starting to break...

So I was riding this morning to work, quite slowly as I am tired at the moment, and as I arrived on Coldharbour lane just after Camberwell, I suddently felt that I was moving down on my bike, that my feet were coming closer to the floor... The way it felt, I knew it was the frame although it the first time that happened to me...

I tied the frame with my toe clips straps and my scarf as I had no time to get back home for another bike and managed to reach Putney, going even slowlier than before!!
Really if I had been bombing down hill, that would have been nasty, I guess this fantastic frame had the ultimate elegance to save its owners life as it was dying...
That bike is my first british road bike ever, I have been riding it since I arrived in London almost 5 years ago!! I think I want to try to save it, but have not definitely made my mind...

    Szia

  • £40 isn't bad to get it up and running, but of course it will probably want a respray too.
Bad luck but at least it it didn't happen at a more inopportune moment.
    Thankfully you are OK.

  • looks to me from the top two photos that you have already fixed it up fine ;)

just glad you are okay loic.

  • Glad your ok Loic. That was your sentimental bike too, if i recall?

Very nice bodge by the way, a french man never leaves home without his scarf for just such an occasion.

  • Brixton to Putney with frame in that state?

  • you just can't trust british builders these days

    :-)

glad you did not crash and good heath robinson effort to get you home

  • Desolé pour ton cadre Loic. La prochaine fois, achete Francais ;-)

  • Oh no! glad you're ok mon ami
methinks you should definitely save it - its a lovely bike.

  • Is that exactly were the butting of the tube goes from thin to thick for the wielding joint maybe?
    Not that that helps.
shame, one of my fav bikes on here.

  • Glad you're okay Loic. Try to save it if possible. There must be something about that frame, for it to get you to work, with a detached downtube. Ruddy remarkable actually.

  • I say repair it- this just adds to the history of the bike, from you finding it in the Market to it+scarf getting you to work after the tube broke.

You could view it as an opportunity to work on a new livery for it?

  • glad your ok buddy, hope its only the downtube but remember to get the toptube and lugs looked at :S

  • it looks like it should polish out with a bit of t-cut

  • Bad luck mate.
