Sidi Giau vs Dominator

Posted on
  • Hi

I know the love the dominator gets, but was wondering if the cheaper Giau (replacement for the Bullet i believe) was worth a look in? Currently 89 quid at CRC so if anyone has a pair, or even better has tried both, then please voice your opinions!

    For reference:

  • Any luck finding out about these? I came on here to find out exactly the same thing!

  • I thought the Giaus were for ladies, but I might be utterly wrong.

I almost bought some but went for the dominators instead.

  • no experience of these but have 2 pairs of shoes myself, one pair with velcro closure, and a pair with a ratchet - i found the pair with the ratchet allow you to get the shoe fit tighter which means you get much better control and feedback.

  • Dominator - MTB shoe of choice for George Dubya

  • The Giau's support around the ankle is softer than the dominator, which was one of the reasons why i spent a tad more on the dominators and with the ratchet closure - it was snug. I felt i had more movement in the giau's, and with pretty skinny ankles, i felt they didn't offer as much support..... hope that helps a little?

Helps him climb hills about this steep:

  • I take it the ratchet means it'd be a consistent tightness as opposed to the velcro's more variable nature?
Pistaboy, I do have skinny ankles, so your advice is relevant.

  • i agree, the dominator fastening system gives a lot more control - way better

  • the giau's are made for spin classes, hence more ventilation and probably not as robust as dominators

    plus only velcro straps

  • i bought last years sidi dragons from brixton cycles for a fucking bargain.

  • Yeah I think I'll definitely stretch my budget to Dominators.

Next question... where's good (cheapest?) to get these in London? People have mentioned Brixton Cycles. I wish I could UTFSforLBS. I don't really have the time or energy to do a tour of London bike shops for a mega price comparison.

  • once you know the size velo uk is a good place to look, or brixton cycles too

  • Definatley go for the dominator they offer alot more support and the rachet system is the key to win. We sell 100 dominators to 1 giau.
Eagle 5 Pro's are another to look at as well, they are exactly the same as the dominators but have a couple of bits of mesh on the upper, and they also come in colours other than black.

giau's aren't made for spin glasses, the sidi indoor shoes are which have a lighter weight upper with more mesh. their are ladies versions of all just about all sidi models.

london get them from brixton cycles, condor or cycle surgery's.

  • do NOT get the dominators with replaceable soles, get the normal ones.

  • Dominators don't have replaceable soles (unless your talking what those crazy yanks call dominators).

On the replaceable soles, if you get the grey and yellow ones they are alot harder wearing than the others (they don't fit the new carbon models though)

  • You need the ratchet fastening because sidi don't use proper "velcro" and use no name hook and loop instead which loses grip after about a year.

  • Nope authentic Velcro® is used I can't say i've ever heard anyone complain about them losing grip sure they fluff up but the grip with the rubber stoppers holds very well.

  • but the point is you get a far superior closure with a ratchet system...
