I live 10 minutes on foot from seven sisters tube station, in the Bruce Castle area. My comments are:
-- if you like local pubs/restaurants/whatever there is little to it
-- the area looks much rougher than it is in terms of violence or crime. Plenty of ugly faces around but they seem happy to keep to themselves. The local kurdish fraternal organisation seem to disapprove of un-organised crime.
-- According to my neighbours, who lived there for the last 13 years, the place is slowly (slowly) getting better. There are libraries, at least one sport center, some form 'youth' place for gigs --no guarantees it will ever fly mind you-- even a choir.
The areas just off seven sister road and the high road look much rougher than the rest. I would also say you can go to a relatively quiet street to a rough one in walking 1 minute. Bottom line, if you plan to live there and play somewhere else you can find pretty good places. If you want to live someplace 'hip' with plenty of cool stuff to do without you having to look for them, you're less likely to be happy.
