Most powder coaters also due translucent or mettalic colours, it'll save you time & money getting it done professionally plus power coat is much more durable than wet spray.
In terms of wet spray stuff, you can try one of the many car body shops most of them could do a good job. I know someone in balsall heath if you need.

it will cost you far more than £100 to buy the equipment & paint.
a decent DeVilbliss gun will set you back £100+ on it's own. -

try ebay I got one with a compressor for £120 ish. Its not brilliant but it certainly does the job.

ta for the input guys, am still pondering, I also have 3 frames to do but I really like old style contrasting headtube and bands on the seat tube, thinking of powder coating then painting over the top. Anyone tried on of these?

that's all in, quality of the job is a bit variable, sometimes a bit splodgy, MAKE SURE YOU PUT IN OLD BB CUPS! Sorry for the capitals but last time I was there I saw some poor bugger's bike with paint right through the BB threading. Got a load of colours, some RAL, some random, I'd head down n look at what they got. As well as the BB cups you need the seatpin if it's integral in the frame and bottle screws in etc, pretty easy to get the paint off them after removing tham. Hope that helps.

yup i spent hours (well at least two) getting the paint out of my bb threads cos i didn't have any spare french threaded cups to put in.
I took in a paperback book and asked for the same mint green colour that was on the back and he pulled out the right one first time. paint was ok, good enough for 30 quid, but obviously not as good as a much more expensive bike specific paintjob... -

haha, I bought a book cover in too and they did the same trick.

colour matching book covers? interesting way of choosing a frame colour.im gonna have mine done there i think... then again i might just buy black spraypaint and DIM
Hi guys,
I really want to try to do a proper spray job, apparently 2k auto paint is the shit (the rattle can job I was so proud of looked great but chipped like a bastard). So apparently you need a spray gun and compressor, any ideas/ know anyone who had one? Not really a fan of the toy bike look of powder coat and not a fan of pushing £100 to respray a frame that is worth less than that.
