"Riding a fixed gear on the street is about as dumb and simple as you can get on a bike."
Why?

i go from forum to forum about once a year... when one forum gets boring move on to the next.
Six months here, we win. Bye.
I'm sure both your esteemed friends will be sorry to see you go.
Until next year (about) then.
Can't say I'll miss your contributions, I'm afraid...

That results in shit like this...
l...I have never seen one so fucked up and anal retentive as this...

well...
I have never seen one so fucked up and anal retentive as this.
I think it's pretty funny actually.
This forum does expect people to have some common sense/used a forum or internet before. I see it more as not suffering fools gladly, which works for me. And that is also what makes it funny.
It also shows no respect to anyone with no respect for the 'rules' - written or implied (can easily work out the implied rules by reading through a page of posts and getting a feel for how the forum works - if people can't be bothered to do that then why should the forum bother to help them?)
This thread is a good example. Someone posts their crappy bike on an independent thread and then tries to defend that when told what they should have done, which they could have worked out by reading through the other posts first!

I slept with a girl named abbey once her nose was stuck up in the air like that saddle
-
• #35
looked better before.
don't get brakes and you'll be fucked within a month if we're lucky. darwinism ftw. -
• #36
are you for real?
this is what the google a tron is for.
silly questions get silly answers. everytime you don't know about something do you ask someone else or are you capable of finding stuff out for yourself?they're the handlebars that 'rise' upwards. look at the pics. its pretty obvious.

• #37
it's too early to be a cunt.
like your white bike by the way. get a brake tho. with such silly questions you're blatently not ready for brakless.... -
• #38
I would say stubborn, just stupid.
Their is no good reason for doing what your doing, it will actually make you slower in traffic. I pass dumb dudes like you all the time on my little 48x18 ratio, I had no problem stopping on it when I used to ride fixed and I didn't ride around all the time with the fear that someone would do something several feet in front of me and I wouldn't be able to stop in time.
-
• #39
52x16 brakless equals death unless you have the legs of a greek god. must be so slow in stop start traffic.
tell you what, i'll race you down from the top of highgate hill, lets see who can stop first without killing their knees/faceplanting into dusk til dawn on the roundabout.
of course, if its a track only bike then i'll shut up.
48x18 ftw -

Thats confusing i'll just keep it in here
Really! What about me directing you to the correct part of the forum to post this kind of thing in, instead of starting a whole new thread is confusing you exactly?
-
• #41
No. A 46 is a more sensible option, maybe even a 45 if you are keeping the 16.
And don't easy me, if you fly into the middle of a lady on a cream roller (as someone did last week) because your gear ratio is dumb I will belt you one in the face (actually, I probably won't, I'll probably just cry. But really you are being selfish by riding a bike you can't stop).

• #42
Oh jeez, and you are seriously coming on a big forum ride tonight!!
Please tell me what you will be wearing and what bike you are on so I can avoid you!
-
• #43
That is even dumber. You don't stop better by throwing longer skids, no matter how committed you are to throwing them.
I...I....well, mostly because I like typing it, I'm gobsmacked.(puts thread on ignore)

Oh man you guys are like 12 year old school girls, always bickering.
Apologies for what I did wrong...

lensmann, your attitude to this forum, may mean that you're illustrating a certain level of contempt, that doesn't lead very well to friendships.
If Nhatt gave me any advice on bikes, I'd listen. I'm not saying that everyone should, but since she's a bike mechanic, I'd at least give her the benefit of the doubt.
So far on this forum, you've shown all the singlemindedness of Paul-Michel. I like Paul, but most people will tell you that even when he's wrong at the beginning, he behaves like a dog with a bone, that just can't let it go. I think we're all prepaered to tolerate a certain amount of individuality in people, but crass and boastful stupidity is another premise entirely.
Since you're new to this, why not learn from others with greater experience and profficiency?
There are specific terms for people that cannot learn. I hope you're aware of that.
-
• #47
xRJx, there's nothing wrong with learning what parts of the forum to use, and for which purposes.
Anyone giving advice on that, was being good and trying to be helpful.Putting threads in the wrong forums isn't the worst thing in the world, but it just makes the forum disjointed.
Better to have a little bit of order, so as to navigate around the place.

cryptic post.. both friends? not following what you're saying, but i'm sure it's meaningful.
This is an oddity: "Can't say I'll miss your contributions, I'm afraid..."
i don't really contribute much. I glance at the porn and current projects and music thread. thats about it. if i see a bike i like, i say something. if i see a bike i don't like, i keep quiet.
anyway i knew i was bringing out the meter sticks with that post. i'll keep quiet again. (note to self: don't criticize those that are criticizing. lesson learned)

Why would I want brakes on a fixed gear bike?
