Wanted: Advice on new bike

Posted on
  • Hey, my quest for a new SS Road Bike continues. Now, I've just learnt that as a sole trader i can claim 20p per mile traveled to/from work back off of my tax at the end of the year - this is good as I now have a bigger budget with which to buy a new bike. That said, I can now spend around £350 - £400. The Langster that i'm keen for remains out of my budget but I found this Fuji Track bike:

which looks pretty dope. Does anybody have any opinions on whether this is worth getting? Do you know anywhere else that I should look? Anything good going down on the internet at the moment?

Any held is, as always, massively appreciated.

  • Lots of advice already here. Requires some searching (upper right hand corner of the forum)

  • and advice requests probably shouldn't be in the classifieds section - if you can, move it before the flaming starts :)

  • In addition, you should consider moving further from your permanent place of work in order to maximize your tax deduction. For example, if you commuted from Reading to central London (a distance of 41 miles) you would be entitled to a daily deduction of 1,640 pence.

  • Hey, it was in the classified section in case anyone wanted to sell me one. I also figured that the buying/selling dudes would have the best idea of where to look. If you tell me how to move a post I will happily do it though.

I found the above list extremely helpful, thank you very much Aroogah, I think that I might get the Schwinn Cutter or the Fuji Track... although the Langster is very appealing I reckon I can't justify the extra £150.

    Thanks dudes.

1,640p a day to live Reading?
It would be better to buy a really big bin bag and live in the Thames :S

  • What about Slough? 22.4 miles = 896 pence

  • Scunthorpe - 7760 pence.

  • 7760 pence!
you could live like a king just on your commute! thats worth thinking about

  • Brisbane, QLD - 205460 pence

  • auckland, NZ - 284040 pence. houses are cheaper too.

  • Newquays nice 228,5 miles = 9140pence!

That'd buy a lot of cider in Newquay.

  • Hi everyone - I too would like some advice!!!

My charge plug got stolen a few months back, If and when my insurance comes through I was hoping to replace it. This is where the conundrum lies.... which bike should I go for??? should I stick with the plug, is this bike being discontinued? Are there any better OTP bikes available? I need to get back on the road again pretty quickly and am not skilled to build a bike in such a short space of time.

Also, this summer I am going on a cycling holiday around europe with some friends. I doubt I would survive fixed or ss. and was planning to build a nice but strong little number. I think this would be a nice project to work on and it would help me get more savvy with the mechanics of bikes. any advice would be really appreciated.

  • Building a bike is easy; PM jazzythumper, he might have some bits you can buy.

  • look out for gorgeous baby blue fixies too, they sometimes come up on here
