An alternative to A&E is a minor injuries unit. There's one at St Thomas', for instance:

Here's an explanation:

It's just the ticket for a variety of minor cycling injuries. I'm told that they have fairly fast turnaround times, although I haven't been to one myself.

I have been to the minor injury wards for a variety of sprains, a broken ankle, and a fractured tibia amongst other things. They are by far a better alternative to A&E, where i actually ended up waiting for 4 hours in a waiting room with appendicitis. Luckily it didn't burst while I was waiting, but the point is, avoid A&E wherever possible, and use facilities that are under used by the public, but will perfectly serve your needs.
I highly reccomend the one at Barts:

minor injuries unit for the win, I usually do the one at guys, you generally get seen within 15mins to half an hour, if they can't treat it, they send you off to a department that can, and just generally look after you well.
much rather go there than a+e and the nurse practitioners know their stuff. -

Just finished with my old pals at A&E at Charring Cross Hospital (You know you're a regular when the gave two different files on you)
After the X-ray it was pretty obvious I'd "Popped" my AC ligament. No surgery required just a sling and a referal to the fracture clinic at West Middlesex hospital.
Right, I'm off to work riding brakeless in a sling.

Thank you Doctor, that's great advice! :)
