I learnt a lot from what he said, he made sure he mentioned the names of plenty of other riders who he respected, and he didn't shy away from commenting on hoary old (but difficult) stuff like drugs in cycling. Shocking info contrasting the continental attitude to cyclesport with the casual British style back in the day. Well-meaning but very amateur team mechanics. GB team sponsorship consisting of a set of tyres!
Nice dry sense of humour as well. Unlike G, I never got some of his old kit and one of his own bikes directly from him, just had a nice De Ver frame for a while. But really, an easy person to respect. Nice family too, they were there.
