check the numbers on the bearings pajamas... they should tell you what's what.

+1 the cartidges have standard sizes which are imprinted on the seal .. i just tapped out the shagged cartridges on rear miche primato and replaced with ceramic hybrids (which are sweeet!) .. the miche is a bit tricky to get them out of but if you're lucky then the following link will apply http://projekto-b.blogspot.com/2008/01/how-to-replace-your-cartridge-bearings.html

yeah, I did look at the serial numbers.. I posted the thread at the stage that I had to accept they were different but wondered if ostensibly they were the same, i.e. if someone had put front ones in back or vice versa and had had no probs..
I'm not big on cartridge bearings, I imagine this kind of idea would be laughable to a cartridge bearings supremo but there you go, it was a layman's longshot..

if the numbers are different then you very unlikely to be able use them interchangeably .. take a look at http://www.vxb.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc? this is for 6001 cartridges (the one i needed) 6001 is the standard code for the cartridge which is 12mm inner diameter x 28mm outer diameter x 8mm width (12x28x8) the bit after 6001 eg 6001-2RS denotes the number of seals i.e. 2RS = 2 rubber seals (finding all this shit out was a pain in the arse but i ended up with the right cartridge!) .. i am stoked with the ceramic hybrid cartridges i got .. i reckon its a very cost effective way to have hubs that perform as good/ better than top end hubs without the same cost .. re cup and cone i'm about to buy some new hubs and very tempted to go for cup and cone again and then just fit loose ceramic balls which are much cheaper than the cartidges .. i don't mind cleaning and repacking anyway and at least you can clean and repack with them

i use these for cartridge ceramic hybrids:http://www.endurobearings.com/bicycle/enduro_bearings.html.
For ceramic ball bearings I tried Carbontec on ebay. These are wheel related but they do BBs etc. too. -

It is unlikely that the bearings are the same, unless they are increased in number, i.e 3 instead of two. The rear is reckoned to take more stress through the drive, so the bearings are strengthened proportionately, although my experience is limited to road bike rear wheels.

ah okay.. they're both 6000 but have different letters after them..
I'm on it anyway.. cheers

sjs have the bearing details on their product page I think, phil.

if the axles share the same nut, i would guess they are they same. or just knock it out, measure, buy
-

unlikely innit.
but not out of the question, if they have different numbers then they are different bearings. the letters after the number indicate the type of seal. ie: 6002-2RS is a 6002 bearing with 2 rubber seals, 6002 ZZ has a shield.
most bike bearings are RS.
the axle diameter is different between front and rear hubs, and as this bears on the inner bore of the cartridge bearing, I would suggest incompatibility

cheers dudes.. got a front hub off Henry last week which means I now have a brand new front hub and so could have used some bearings from a previous snapped front I've still got the bits of.. but seems I gots to buy some specifically. Cool.

rallying call for a shop in London that would stock these kinds of bearings...anyone know a good bet? it would be great to walk in and buy some rather than the week or so wait I've been quoted...

I was looking at 6001 ceramics like these for my ambrosios (same hubs?).
Ceramic 22 notes per bearing though

or £8 a pair for rubber sealed steel.

i presume you have one side out when you removed the axle? if so, smack de udders out with said axle..
-
• #20
i can't see how you would get the axle with out at least one set of bearings unless your axle has no lips/

from the SJS site
A high quality Large Flange pair of track hubs, front OLN is 100mm, rear OLN is 120mm but will respace down to 110mm or up to 130mm with the addition or removal of washers. Rear Axle is 10mm in diameter, Front is 9mm, and hollow for lightness. Overall length of the axle is 165mm. The hub can be spaced to 130mm without swapping the axle.
Very good value for money compared to other hubs.Supplied with 2 lockrings.
Replacement bearings. - These are the same bearing for both front and rear. Our part no. is 17093.So yeah front bearings are usable in the rear.

Thread dredge!
I have some IRO hubs (the same as sjs i think) and the front has a tiny but noticable wobble. It still spins for an age so maybe the axle is bent a tiny bit? It must be because cartridge bearings are non adjustable right? I am being thick? Anyone have any experience? -

super bump
probably being a bit lazy but a search revealed no specific thread on this mother...
basically - are the cartidge bearings on an SJSC front hub transferrable to use on an SJSC rear hub? My rear hub is in urgent need of replacement bearings and I thought this might be an quick way round it...
I'd have pmed someone but I thought it might be useful for other people
cheers
