well said^^ if more people took this approach they might actually become better connected to others around them, which leads to overall social cohesion and so on.
This is just not that simple. In more rural areas you can't always live near where you work - jobs and houses are spread over a wide area. Besides, if I move near to where I work, what about the people I live with? Or should they all get jobs near me? Or should I choose only to live with people who happen to work near me? Should I choose a partner in the same way, to lighten the load on the transport infrastructure?
