I lived there for 10 years and fucking hate that country.

If you weren't interested in footy, cars and surfing you don't exist in their spectrum of expected behaviour.

The amount of times I had people try to run me over when out skateboarding or cycling(even mounting the curb sometimes whilst I was skating on the pavement).
Numerous occasions having shit thrown at me from passing vehicles, including beer bottles..
People taking swings at you just walking through town with a deck under your arm.

A land of fucking, fucking, savages.

You're about the same age as my bro, things were actually different then. Perth is not the same as it was with the whole bogan or surfie type thing, with nothing inbetween. My bro used to comment on me and my group of friends (Im 8 years younger) and basically point out that I was lucky and times had changed, everyone's into different stuff. There's been loads of immigration from countries other than the UK (and still loads of that too) and I reckon it's made things better via diversity. People can be openly gay these days, there'd be no way that would be possible back in the Maddington you knew. Back in the 90's you'd be labelled a "poof" for being into electronic music. My Irish mate had been brought up on the rave culture in Ireland and people would slag him off for going to raves and listening to his helter skelter tapes. These days it's hugely popular, everyones all over it.

Culture wise somewhere like Perth is not a scratch on London (few places are) but its not a wasteland either. Can't speak for Melbourne or Sydney as I've never lived there but they're probably more sound than Perth.

Driving attitude still sucks, my ol' man tells me stories every so often of issues on the roads, luckily he's never had bottles thrown at him. Been knocked off a few times by ignorant drivers though.
