Thanks... like I said, my scheme only allows bikes upto £1k (I know my scheme) - and this was a specific hello to any Mythos or Focus users.

I don't like the look of the Planet X and turns out the Boardman is a bit too aggressive for my needs (longer distances and winter training). I can't find any London Dolan dealers and the Cayo is online order only, so either's going to be a bit of a stab in the dark...
Ta.
Dont own one, but is'nt the Cayo quite aggressive too?
For more comfort, have you considered Ribble?

Yep... it's something the company has set up independently, so I can buy from anywhere (good) but one grand tops (not so good)

The planet x (looks or not) is the best value for £1K by a country mile.
edit: Disapointed this was my 1,000 post so: HTFU & UTFS, TILMF!! Cunt.
Much better.

Last I checked it came with the new ultegra gruppo, which looks really nice. Plus the PX wheels are pretty good too.

^^ All true.... if i wasn't saving the pennies for wheels and a DA group i would definitely have one.

...Also the £999 ultegra 6700 PX build comes with model C wheels which are a standard 32 spoke 3x wheel. These should make good training/long distance wheels.
(ED: you'd think I'd earn comission for this spam)

On a less sensible note. Evans are knocking these out at £999
Would need a fair amount of upgrading (IMHO), but bloody nice frame. It floats FFS. -

The C2W scheme is for up to £1000 only. Some bike shops will let you pay the difference over £1000 but that is up to them, not something that the C2W scheme organises.

How fit is that, i mean really!? doesn't look like a grands worth at all does it... more like 3!
plus on the ribble site you can choose finishing kit sizes, ratios and coloured tyres to suit, do many manufacturers do that?

Erm... That isn't the 1k Ribble... :)
Dolan Mythos looks suspiciously like the Planet-X... Must be from the same factory.
I would go CAAD9...

CAAD 9 is an excellent choice, although for 2010 the only option (sub-£1k) is Tiagra. Shame it ain't 105.

Evans have the 105 version reduced to £999.

Thanks, I had half an eye on that - just because the frame is so good, but was under the impression this was more of a full-on race machine?

full on race machine = perfect for commuting.
did i miss something?

No more so than the Cayo, I would have thought.
http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/bikes/road/product/caad-9-105-compact-09-33260I'd look into your riding position. If its going to be very relaxed for these long rides, then the Ribble (with its high headtube), could be your best choice. The Ribble does have a long effective top tube though, so its not ideal for everyone.

Exactly.
In fact, I'd go as far recommending a TT bike. Its not like people commute in tight groups. Areo matters.
You will of course need wing mirrors because of the riding position;
plastic clip on MTB mudguards to protect your suit trousers;
lots of knog lights for safety;
a thermal coffee bottle; and
a seatpost mounted rack for the sandwiches.This'll be ace starts googling tt frames

I like where you're coming from with the TT idea...

I know, and its a source of much pain to me that my C2W scheme can only be used with Halfords or On Your Bike. Evans have loads of good deals, Halfords/OYB have none!

Fingazzz, halfords can get some decent bikes. The St Pauls branch had some tasty road bikes last time I went. I cannot remember which brands OYB stock, from memory its all Trek Corp / Cannondale.

On Your Bike sell Wilier bikes, need to go down to Campag Mirage to get under £1k for the triestina though.
Does anyone here have either of these? Turns out my work's Cycle 2 Work scheme only allows bikes upto £1000. I know £1k isn't a huge amount to play with for a good road bike - but I'm hoping to get something half-decent and upgradeable? I'd really appreciate any comments from users of either.
