  • tarboy, we now all hate you more than even before.

Though, you did score a great bike.

  • Not inspired to start until its orderly in there with a bench and all. There are a few other bikes I need to get onto as well. And murphy would have it that after spending all this cash on this colnago; a rather beautiful blue and yellow bataglin (full bike) appeared in the classifieds today. Might break the bank but its the first I've spotted here. Seems to be a must.

I've got a custom Ti frame, and i found it in a skip,
    blows raspberry
sorry, smugness over. Had to get it off my chest.

Yes. The TI stands for Tube Investments, the company that drove Raleigh into the ground...

Tube Investments now lost patience with Raleigh. TI decided to sell the company and, on 1st April 1987, it was bought by Derby International.

*TI’s 27-year ownership of Raleigh, under successive MDs Leslie Roberts, Tom Barnsley, Ian Phillips, Rowley Jarvis and Bob Ing, had seen market share drop from 75% to 36%. Under TI, Raleigh was smothered: a relatively small division, unable to make important decisions without reference to higher authority. *

*There was a feeling within Raleigh that its bosses were not really in charge. TI seemed more interested in filling in five-year plans, rather than making decisions. It was a huge conglomerate including not only industrial tubing but consumer products such as Creda cookers, Russell Hobbs kettles and Tower saucepans. *

TI did not see bicycles as being interesting or particularly profitable.

  • So the consensus is that 500 is a fair price if the frame is top notch but that it may or may not be liable to fatigue and either way the friend should/should not offer a discount and/or ship it to Nhatt and Balki may or may not be suffering from a loss of feeling in his groinal area.

Well I'm glad we sorted this out

  • Having moaned so shamefully about the price of a bargain frame, and totally devalued his mate's friendship (and trashed himself in front of thousands online while doing so), now Tarboy is flipping the F+F.

What a prince among men. I've been following the thread. If it is true that Tarboy's married, I pity his wife.
