  • This looks like a nice event--this coming Tuesday. Maurice Burton was also at an event at Riverside Studios earlier this year:

    Lovely guy.

This year for Black History Month we have the pleasure of introducing to you cycling Legend Maurice Burton.

Maurice made cycling History in 1974 by becoming Britains first ever black senior champion.

After winning three British Titles and racing at the Commonwealth Games he moved to Belgium where he raced professionally on the six day circuit before moving back to Lambeth to take over De Ver Cycles in Streatham in 1987.

Maurice will be talking about his experiences of professional cycling in the 1970s and 80s and will be interviewed by Lincoln Romain from Brixton cycles before opening questions up to the floor.

To book a seat you must call 020 77926 1075 or email blackhistorymonth@lambeth.gov.uk

Once you have registered you will be able to come to the event where you will be in with a chance of winning a £200 voucher for De Ver Cycles.

Wine, soft drinks and nibbles will be supplied on the night.

The event will take place at The Streatham Library, 63 Streatham High rd, SW16 1PL on the evening of Tuesday the 6th October.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions and if you would like a poster size file please email me to request one.

    Hope to see you there,
    Best regards,
    The Sustainable Transport Team

  • Looks good!

  • i was just about to start this thread, glad i used the search. i definitely want to attend this, he has so many stories in him.

no trackie person should miss this.

  • Tracist^

  • ^ sneaky edit!

I want to go to this, and TRNC. And I can do neither.

  • There was a nice feature in the comic recently about him and his sons.

  • dave creasey at herne hill was singing the praises of one of his sons that had been at the track a couple of weeks previous. i think he said that it was the boys first time on the track but he could already see the pedigree so to speak .

  • I'll be there...
He's a great guy, I saw him with my dad at the Skol Six in the 70s...

  • Bump.

  • anybody else going? ,,,, (bump)

  • Still out. I'd love to be there.

  • Thinking about it, Lincoln's doing the interview so it would be cool to shut the shop 5 min early and sneak down

  • Ah, I kept on forgetting to hunt for this on here. If I'm free tomorrow I'd love to attend... do we know whether its sold out yet?

  • I left the Riverside screening wishing they'd given Maurice more opportunity to talk, he seemed to have loads to say...hope I can make this..

  • Thanks for posting this, Oliver. Now news of this has leaked out onto the internets, I'd be getting there earlier rather than later if I wanted to be sure to get in. They are not answering email requests for tickets. Not a good sign. And Lambeth don't have the best reputation for organisation. They've probably allocated the man a broom cupboard for his audience. I just heard his shop team (De Ver) can't get seats!

  • A mate tried to get tickets this morning and the event is 'sold out'.

  • they did say on the phone earlier that it was fully subscribed ,,, but its still worth trying if you havent recieved your ticket confirmation as yet.

  • Yes, I did think I'd post it up as a public service--sadly can't go myself.

  • Oh, and I'd love a report from the event if anyone on here is going.

  • if i can get a tape recorder in i'll do a recording, convert it to mp3 and host it somewhere with some pics. there are lots of maybe attached to this idea so please dont hate me if it doesnt come together.

  • I will dust off my analogue sony dictaphone thing and see if it still rolls, but I just can't think of where I have any full-size cassettes. If anybody coming along has a digital recorder with a fat memory, that would be a better option - would make the conversion to mp3 or mp4 a lot easier too.

Aside from Coppi Productions taking it all on, any offers?

  • Yeah..I've 'ad that Maurice Burton on the back of my derny...

    Hi,

I am attending and I have with me my Mp3 player, Cowon Iaudio, it has a voice recorder function, I just checked and it seems that I have 9 hours left to record on the HD... I don't know if there is a size limitation for the file... Lucky enough my batteries are fully charged today

I tried a minute ago and the built in microphone is a bit crap, you need to be very near... There is a Line In mini jack input put I don't know if it would take a external microphone like this one, if someone could bring one...

    Hope this could help...

    Szia

    Loic

  • @veLLo perfect. i'll ask them if we can put it on the table right in front of them

  • what a great night, definitely worth it. details tomorrow.

well done to those who made it.
