Brake Lines for a Mixte Frame

Posted on
  • Got a Mixte frame I am doing up at the moment, and the brake line for the rear brake goes through the centre of the frame, only it needs to be held tight where it is exposed, does anyone know where I can get the little pieces that hold the end of the outer brake cable casing between the exposed cable in tension?

  • That doesn't sound like a great idea, as any brackets would be either over-engineered to be immovable or not firm enough to hold your cable tight enough to not allow flexing. I suggest it would be better to use a full outer and inner cable for the whole run.

  • Dick Barton speaks truth- cable will need to be fully sheathed from lever to brake.

  • i have seen them exposed, and before it was stripped it was exposed on this bike?

  • I've got a Mixte frame like that although it hasn't actually got a rear brake on at the moment. I've just been to have a look at it, and I reckon you should have another bridge at the top end of the two split tubes. From what I remember, I reckon a screw-in adjuster fits in the hole in the top bridge and this takes the outer casing and tensions the bare wire down to the brake. The screw-in adjuster is like the one which fits in a standard side-pull brake, or like the one which fits in the hanger on the headset for a centre-pull brake. Try getting hold of an old Weinmann 500/730 - I think that one will fit. If you can't find one, get back to me and I'll have a look in the garage.
