Yeah, we're considering bigger stuff but Kate, my wife, is really put off by hot derivatives, whereas I am not going to part with a [when considering it as purely a sum of money] huge amount of cash for a boring car.
So a warm supermini is the best compromise for us. I also have a Combo van so space isn't an issue. If we're going a long way it is normally for a break away so we'll be in the bay window, so it's mostly for Kate to use for work and general day to day running about.
That makes three vehicles which precludes the high insurance and tax of a decent hot hatch. I agree with your points, there is a lot of fun to be had for the money we have to spend, but it just doesn't add up for our circumstances.
Having tried the Panda and thought about it over the weekend we're now definitely going to get the Lupo back to good as new condition. I took it out today, and despite not being able to extend the engine I had an absolute hoot. Gently nurse it to 60mph and stay put, whatever the radius of the corner. There's nothing comparable on the market today, it's a rare fairly desirable variant being the openair 100bhp jobbie so I think it's gonna be a lifer. Besides, I spent 3 hours T-Cutting and waxing it this afternoon and I'm not giving someone else the benefit of all that elbow grease.
