Ha. No. Surly bastards.
Bike Whisperer is far better unless you just happen to want a POS bike off the shelf NOW.I'm glad you've said that, they are so surly aren't they. (i always feel like, ahem, a stammering little school boy before the truculant headmaster in there, a boy who knows his homework is under par yet again but whose quivering lip, earnest apologies and flushed face always fails to temper the haughty disdain of the over-zealous governor.). gulp

Bike Whisperer.. Scherrit and Corrine are fantastically nice.
I just checked and they are now 4th for "ealing bike shop". When I first found them they didn't appear in the top 20!

did you say there is a front break fitted? nobody has messed around with the cabling have they? sometimes if its too long / too short ( the cable housing i mean) it can cause the front wheel to be pushed over. its slight enough not to be noticed when you are riding but take the hands off and it might cause imbalance. try lifting the bike so the wheels are off the ground and it is balanced (on a mechanic's stand is best) and see whether the front wheel stays straight or moves.

cheers carson, thanks for the advice but i don't think that's the problem. think it's a badly fitted headset from what i've read on this thread so far.

omg 27 posts to diagnose a poorly fitted headset. How many lfgss forum members does it take to change a lightbulb?

this happen to me and i found it was my seat, it was hella bent but it was mainly making me go to the left.. it just wobbled cuz i over compensated trying to go streight.. could be ur tire not seated correctly too if it makes a bump..
or like some said ur headset could be loose

Probably lack of skill.
Could be fucked headset.
Could be alignment issue.
Could be bike geo (e.g. track bike is harder to ride hands free compared to tourer)^
Defintely the last I expect ...
I am quite happy riding my old racing bike (an orbit) no handed most of the time and my mountain bike. However my shorter racer and my specialized allez I find quite difficult to ride no handed. I think it is the tighter geometry.
Edit: my mountain bike has a dead point in the headset when the tyre is facing forwards, to ride no handed I have to deliberately make sure I have enough angular velocity for the forks to turn over that area, in other words I need to wiggle constantly to stay balanced.

Headset diagnosis ride, We all turn up after bodging our headsets a bit and others hacve to guess what we did to them, when they're all fixed we can trundle off

^ sounds like fun.
Maybe we could do an event called ... guess the bodge on lucas's bike ... it will be me riding up with a perfectly functioning bike and you guys will have to take a guess to what I have bodged.... the winner will have the honour of buying me a bitburger.

No that is called a night out at Walkabout.
dude, it's probably the headset being badly fitted. Maybe you need to get the headtube faced, maybe it's overtightened. Not too convinced about the 1 brake offset thing...
