We need more polo players

Posted on
  • Does anyone know anyone who whats to play or know of people who maybe intrested in playing or got any ideas to promote Cambridge Polo. The more players we can get hooked, maybe we could get the league up and running and maybe last longer than a week ,the more teams cambridge can get the better we can all get

  • i know arron wants to get into polo and may be coming down on sunday (as long as it is still on).
i would be up for a team (and league) but obviously im still pretty new to polo

  • without meaning to sound a cunt, but 'if you want a job doing, do it yourself..'

you can be our "Cambridge Bicycle Polo Public Relations and Marketing Officer" if you like? The position is free!

    what is needed?

    • Conversations with the APU/ARU PR/Marketing/Freshers/Etc people
    • Cambridge Evening News
    • Charity Fundraising Day with BBQ and Raffle with Polo on the side with press coverage - we can invite all the locals and students/general reprobates down to the Trumpington Court for a fun day
    • BBC News are only down the road and might do a piece on it (upcoming new sport, beating obesity etc). Free coverage and marketing
    • 'Come try polo day' with flyers handed out in advance to colleges/uni's/businesses as a method of beating stress, combating obesity, getting fit, enjoying your bike other than riding it or sleeping with it (baker)

You've already made the video that introduces polo to the masses, it wouldn't take much to bring it to the fore, and increase our numbers!

I would do it but i am too busy being a diplomat and looking at buildings and such like

  • wtf...

  • I don't want any more cunts clogging up our court . They can fuck off .

  • thats a nice way to put it harvey!
i am siding with it though.
i know you kindly greeted me with open arms this summer, and i was only one person.

i run the snow society at uni and having to organise people that dont really want to do it is a nightmare. freshers fairs speaking from experience people sign up because they feel they have to, or go Yeah that sounds well good fun, pretty interested in that, then never do anything after that.

I started playing as nath n baker started talkin about it, it sounded good to take pics of, but i ended up playing and got hooked. ive told a few people and they seemed kinda interested n then said nothing. if you've got mates, get them involved, build it that way rather than spreading the word on a massive scale, and putting it in the open which can attract some scum.

    just my 2p really.

  • you need "cunts" to turn up to play polo sorry for fuckin asking, i need polo, half of you dont know what i have to do to get to polo and what polo does for me an when only a handful turn up it makes us sick ,we all live differnt lives. And what you on about marketing shit we english all I was on about was seeing if anyone knew anyone who may be interested in joining in with us we are not trying to be like anywhere else just actually get enough people to have regualar team games.

The bit about gradually with friends is exactly what i was on about

  • Lets get a load of tramps and give them free drink and make them play polo before we set fire to them

  • got any ideas to promote Cambridge Polo

Yes. Think of some ideas. Implement. Savour the grandeur of getting involved and making a difference. Get shoes shined. Enjoy shiny shoes. Etc.

  • your pair of twats fuck cambridge polo

  • Easy Chaps! I think that Jamie was making a valid point. Our numbers have dwindled in recent months with people dissapearing to Uni and the like. If we do not involve other new players, we will end up playing polo with about 6 people which would be rather boring. Once you know another players style, it's no real challenge to play against them. New players however, once familiar with the game are much more of a challenge because they develop their own unique tactics making things much more interesting. I find playing in London quite exciting because I don't know anyone or their areas of polo expertise so it's much more of a challenge to play them. Anyway, I don't think that a major advertising campaign is in order but perhaps encouraging some 'friends' or aquaintances to play might be a good plan. I have a couple of older (late forties, early fifties) friends who are keen to come and have a go. I reckon they could be a force to be reckoned with once they know the game! Anyway, how about stop being negative and get some of your friends involved. Some people only need a little encouragement and then become hooked. I seem to remember that Jamie has been giving a lift to one new player who lives near him and he seems to be very keen. I think it is things like that that will bring new people to the game in a more subtle way than advertising in a newspaper or at a freshers fair. You would doubtless gain lots of dick heads that way but a more subtle approach might bring some likeminded and decent players out of the woodwork. Love from Will XXX

  • well put will, i'll put the word out.

to validate what i was saying in post three, i'm only suggesting quickest route to getting more players. see what the london folk did at the EHBPC, now the newbies who started playing in august are now playing regulary in west london. these people were mere spectators invited to play, now they are hooked.

but yeah, to keep it close knit is a good thing, know who to trust etc. however we may be in danger of it becoming a clique if we don't embrace the new. a bit of fresh blood, new to the scene, is what we need. a bit of a different perspective, to keep the romance going.

and i've no idea what i wrote this morning..

  • You wrote that you wanted to organize a naked scrabble tournament .
