That sounds like some sort of ad campaign
because it is - even the desire to not consume is consumable and thus marketable
the more you look at it the crazier it becomes - advertising operates at such a level of cynicism we would never tolerate elsewhere but yet happily carryon having the piss taken out of our deepest feelings / desires.
what do you think about subliminal cuts? the insertion of very short images in films that influence the sub-concious...its immoral right? ask yourself how far removed from that is product placement in films / tv etc. Pruduct placement used to be banned in bbc braodcasts but that will change. so you pay your licence fee to a public broadcaster who is also getting paid by companies to subtly influence you into buying their product -
i'm normally pretty level headed by i hate advertising with a passion.

This is just a clever ploy to get us to buy shit we don't need.

Move out of the UK.
I've been bitten with the love bug for Finland. I was there in the summer, it's quite possibly the most idyllic place on earth in my opinion. I could reel of a list of reasons why but i shall not.
Suffice to say that 'Western Culture' is your enemy.
If the USA and the UK vanished, i think a LOT of the worlds problems would be eradicated along with your concerns.
I too feel what you feel. Just be optomistically cynical.
thats me.

I'd spend some time in Finland in the winter before you make that move. Finns are miserable bastards for a reason.

My girlfriend is Finnish. She's fine though. Also, i dont drink.....maybe when i retire there i'll knock 'em back like its the end of the world.
I think i may be there for Christmas.....maybe.
the great thing i like about Finns is that they dont talk to each other unless they have to or want to.......brill, i hate small talk.

The Finns who've left Finland tend to be the cheery ones in my experience. I love the fact that silence is considered part of the conversation in Finland.

I love some of this guys stuff:

I most have read all of his pages at some point. You really get a feel for the kind of guy he was.The guy loved cycling, shame he was killed doing what he loved.

also check the old but healthy thread to get a better idea of what im into.I don't have a problem with you being a vegetarian/vegan .. I have a problem with the reasons as to why you are doing it ... i.e. beliefs in supernatural shit that is purely fictious. Anyway I know you are pulling my plonker.
The OP seems to have this arrogance that they know what people want and what is best for planet and all that guff ... get a clue mate ... you don't.
Personally I hate waste ... I hate wasting food .. I hate wasting equipment ... I hate wasting money. Ain't nothing green about it, nothing to do with me caring about the planet ... I just hate wasting stuff. I use a bike because it is cheap and gets me to work quicker than a car ... but this has been discussed before.

wow - i think you got me wrong. i'm not preaching a new philosophy or trying to change the world -i was just explaining how i felt about some things, how i tried to choose how to behave / live, and asked if others felt the same how they went about it. dont really give a shit what others do so long as i can feel free to do what i want.
trying to fugure out why you said that i guess there is negative judgment implicit in my feelings but so are all opinions based on value judgments....i dont see how thats arrogant..?
you got rage dude - go for a ride and sweat it out :)
