  • geoff you were running a washer behind the cog were you not?

i was silkworm as i got more purchase on the lockring i had , the problem i had turned out to be the cheese lock ring that was sold to me ( you shal remain nameless ;-) )

one i brought a proper lock ring the hub has been great

so i retract my previous statement

do you have a lock ring behind your cog rick, its just i got that idea from somewhere

  • is it sorted then or did you send them back?

  • its sorted but im not to sure if the previous lockring has done damage

  • Bought it in a shop - they then spoke to Halo and relayed the response. I'm not naming the outlet because they've been reasonable about sorting something else out for me since it's become clear that Halo aren't going to play ball.

Halo apparently claim that it isn't under warranty as 1] I installed the cog and lockring myself and 2] "they haven't had any other complaints yet" (though see geoffersmaher's post above). I told the shop that I wasn't really fussed about warranty, I was claiming under my statutory rights to a product "fit for purpose" (middle-class Watchdog viewer FTW). I'm now off to collect a wheel with a different hub and they can sort it out with Halo if they want to.

Long and the short of it is that the hub threading failed, fairly dramatically, after 3 months' of uneventful use and a recent check-over and lockring tightening (by me). Apparently this can happen to cheaper hubs made from softer alloy. For instance, it happened twice in a row to a friend of mine with the stock wheels on his Pista, which were eventually replaced for a Miche/Mavic wheelset by his LBS at no cost.

Still glad that you've not had any problems yet and hope that they continue working. Despite my experience it's possible that I just had bad luck. :)

Sorry to hear mate. I can't understand why they wouldn't replace the hub for you. If you could find out who your shop talked to I could give them a ring and ask them what is up with that...

Usually ID are pretty good at replacing stuff under warranty if you just ask them nicely and don't BS.

  • I´ve been thinking about getting the white powdercoated aerorage wheels. Does anyone have real life photos of them. Everything looks good on studio photos but they always look different irl.

  • i am considering a fluro yellow one up front on my bowery.
anyone got pix of a yellow one they own or have seen on the street, not a Ison approved picture.

  • i think i've got haelo haemorrage issues. i have one on the front and this weekend i noticed that when i'm track standing with wheel to the right the front brake starts to rub. bit of a worry yes? i think something must be flexing either the fork's bending (stock ridgeback genesis flyer "crabon fibre" jobbie), the whole wheel is deforming enough to touch the brake or perhaps the hub's moving? bearings fucked? dunno. it all seems pretty sound and runs smooth, silent and true in a straight line but every time i stop and track stand with that wheel turned to the right (or left), no matter how little i try to lean on it, the brake starts to rub. now i've impending wheel collapse paranoia. any thoughts?

  • p.s. shouldn't this thread be in bikes and bits?

  • Have you checked the spoke tension? I also have a pair of Aerorage and after two months of riding the spokes are still tight and the wheels are true.

    I

  • do you think there light......980g for the front

  • halo - good rims, shit (track) hubs.

  • im just goin to get a front halo and get a deep v on ze backk

  • gpt a set pf them today in blk got told the white ones chip easily
they feel amazin and are to strait!
they even been sitting in the backroom of a halfords store for over a year!
yes i do work at halfords also :S
buut iot meens i get a 30% discount on the wheels!!
100 for both seems fair to mee?!

  • Some info for all of you with Aerorage wheels on back order.

I just spoke to a very nice chap at Ison Distribution (the UK distributor), and a container is due to arrive in the UK on Monday. It was due in this week, but got delayed.

I was told that there is enough stock in there to clear some but not all of the back orders.

My guess is that if you ordered over 6 weeks ago, you have a good chance of getting your wheels towards the end of next week, but if you ordered over the past couple of weeks, you are likely to have to wait until the next shipment which is due in at the beginning of October.

  • I had earlier a problem with the rear hub axle, since I obviously tried to tighten them too much. Result: having to wait over one month for a spare axle and spending June afoot.

  • PS Buy a fixed/fixed - once you've tried fixed you won't want to change back, then you'll be kicking yourself over the missed opportunity to easily change your gear ratio without fannying about removing cogs, which can be really inconvenient. Learn from my mistakes.

Wish I'd read this post! Sage advise.

  • What lockring do these use?

  • I've got a purple aerotrack on the back, it's stiff and looks awesome. A few scratches on the black spokes but otherwise a satisfied customer!

  • I've got the flouro ones. After a year of 22-mile a day commuting the rear rim has a bit of a ding which I can't true out. Apart from that though they just seem to keep going. About as close to fit-and-forget as you can get, which I think justifies the high price.
