  • You can't cross-dress in a metropolis like London in todays day and age. It doesn't have the same power it used to. People aren't horrified anymore. They just think you're being trendy.

Erm... I was thinking about doing things just for the sake of doing them, having some fun and you are talking politic... :)

Anyway, what do/did you study, guys?

  • I studied horn.

  • So you're a drop off then, Timmy?

  • Architecture, rather oddly considering what I do now.

  • I studied Theory of Culture and Film Studies, but not how to make it - just to how rip it apart once it was made :-) It took me 6 years and I don't remember anything.

  • I had my statement from the student loans company today and I owe them a mere £1,800 now, ten years after I left Uni.

    Happy days.

  • I don't want to think how much I owe my parents ;-/

  • I'd say you were even with them- their genes shaped you after all.

  • It's not going go down well with the locals on my way back

Didn't understand this post. What's not going down well with the locals..?

  • Can you guys and gals and chicks with dicks please decide where next week's beers is going to be. I'm good with majority decision - although I vote for a roadshow til the works outside the RB are finished and we're not forming a constant obstruction to the many pedestrians who have to get through. Hopefully, they'll even get a few more tables in too.

I have to arrange to meet a friend next Tues and I'm hoping to sneak in a swifty with you guys before she arrives. But I need to tell her where to find me. So, are we running with The Rake for this week, to give it a try?

  • i can speak for all us north drinkers by saying "stop stealing our crowd!"

Stop having your pub up a mountainside then :-)

  • sometime during the evening...

What the fuck are you lot? Gangsta rappers?

    *pfff nope, just...

    Reeen is maaad.

Timmy nods, takes a deep breath and sais with a build up confidence and a strong voice...

    I studied horn.

    ...while looking at his beer.

    .

Ps: come to SE Beers if you want to see how that continues. every tuesday somewhere in [STRIKE]central[/STRIKE] lond'n

    oh wait...

i can speak for all us north drinkers by saying "stop stealing our crowd!"

    ...they already stared to ;)

BEWARE, not long before YOUR Beers get jacked, too!

  • If we move more central we will eventually meet up with other groups somewhere half way :-)

  • that was a joke, we ain't movin 'cross the water, nevaaaAAHH!

    ... we don't, right?

  • Anyway, what do/did you study, guys?

I'm studying Typography and Graphic Design, though because I started that 7 Years ago now, this course 5 years ago, my interests have changed. My dissertation is in the film/moving image study area. It'll be focusing on how technological change is altering our perception of media.

Most likely sounds dull to everyone else.

X-dressing. I'm from the tracksuit land.

  • Most likely sounds dull to everyone else.

It doesn't. I was writing mine about philosophical aspects of depression ;)

  • I'm studying art. It's painful.

  • It doesn't. I was writing mine about philosophical aspects of depression ;)

Kristeva's Black Sun, by any chance?

  • If we go back to the Roebuck next week they will know we are weak, and it won't be long before they start to find ways to hurt or humiliate us. Kiss goodbye to the prospect of a two for one offer in the New Year. Whereas if we hang on for a week or two, just sending Reeen along from time to time to tease them, they may relent and tempt us back with treasure in cheap pizza form.

I suggested the Rake not as a permanent bolthole, because I don't think it does food, but as a pleasant temporary diversion. It's worth trying once at least for the great range of beers they keep.

  • I'm all for trying new places. We have hardly looked tbh, you guys are being lazy. I agree we eventually need to settle on somewhere but we can't try one other pub, find it bad and say "OH WOE, WE ARE STUCK WITH ROE". It's London, there are tons of places to explore.

  • Kristeva's Black Sun, by any chance?

I don't have Kristieva, but I can lend you ''Touched with Fire. Manic-depressive illness and the artistic temperament'' by Kay Redfield Jamison, if you are inclined.

This is also the very informative book:

Completely off-topic post, but does anyone know if someone has ever studied non-depressive manics? It doesn't seem like it would a very popular field in the medical or psych worlds, in that a non-depressive manic wouldn't need help. In fact, it might've never come to the attention of the medical world that it even exists. It's just that's what I am and I wondered if I might find something to read about it.

And before anyone says "You can't be manic without depression... blah blah" like I've been told by extremely "knowledgable" (i.e. they read a book about it once and they see a counsellor sometimes) people, I am a normal, really happy, stable person and sometimes, I have the same manic episodes a manic depressive does, where I am hyper (think like Reeen after a couple of beers) and in a manically happy state (think someone having boshed a couple of e's and a dabbed a fair bit of speed), I can't stand still and I'm just bouncing with more energy than I know what to do with. And then I return to normal the next day, no come-down, no bounce back into the blues. It's like being a manic depressive, but my baseline is 4 notches higher.

I'm not sure if it's a natural medical condition, or if I maybe have some kind of food allergy that's getting me like that or what. So just curious really, in case any of you have ever seen a study paper on the subject.

  • And by the way, are we calling it a win for The Rake this week then..?

BTW, I can't hear the word rake without hearing,

My friend Billy had a ten foot willy,
And he showed it to the girl next door.
She thought it was a snake,
So she hit it with a rake,
And now it's only four feet, four.

    Fuck I'm childish... LOL

  • There is the possibility of a quick visit to the Kings Arms post work today.

I stress this is a mere possibility at the moment.
