cross-complaints are a pain in the arse, I have several on the go. One involves a cyclist getting grief from wvm, flicks the v, wvm gives chase, cuts off, punches off bike, stamps on front wheel. WAC.

Fuck off. I never even said in my OP that i called him a wanker. in fact, until he got aggressive with me i was very careful (although forceful as i was pissed off) about my language. I was just really angry and still a bit shook up and he clearly WAS a wanker hence the thread title.

Hope I'm not hijacking this thread. Last Friday my flat mate was knocked down by a van who wrenched right out of traffic on gt Portland st without indicating and then denied it...Luckily three witnesses came forward to confirm that he had not indicated. The old bill did not even bother handing in a report until my friend followed it up the next day. (I referred him to the 'what to do in case of an accident' thread thanks roxy). He ended up with a broken left wrist no front wheel and no income for at least a month, he's a courier.
I don't think this is indicative of all white vans, I have three working for me who are all aware (and often gob smacked) by cyclists. It's just worth approaching them with caution as most are working to a deadline and could be a total wanker as well.

thanks, and yeah, i hope so too... i believe one of them only saw the latter half, not sure about the other - cops still trying to contact him last i heard. i also don't know what witnesses the other guy claims to have (seeing as there wasn't anybody else in the car with him, and nobody else on the street that day... but as has been said WAC, you never can tell with these people :/ )

heading south on proctor street this morning, a van turned right to take the small turning before the junction with high holborn then decided against, swerved left back onto the main road and wedged himself into the bus lane.

i saw all this from about 40m up the road then squeezed past him as he was stuck at the lights, taking due care as he was obviously a bit lost/dangerous. he got on his horn (genuinely not sure why) so i turned and looked back quizzically (which I thought was quite restrained as often it would just have been the finger).

the next bit is weird.

as i'm waiting at the lights of proctor/high holborn i feel a crash on the back of my bike. I thought that the guy behind me had run into me by accident but as i look behind me i see the driver of the van from before running back to his vehicle after having kicked my back wheel. hmmm...

i asked the pedestrians to stay where they were to act as witnesses, picked up my bike and ran back to where his van was stopped hoping to hold him up in the traffic, but he crossed 3/4 lanes without indicating and sped off left back towards the city.

i got the licence plates and names/addresses of two witnesses so we'll see what happens. apart from damage to the bike i'm not really sure what other crimes he may be guilty of. the police operator was good though so we'll see what happens.

the rear wheel needs a bit of tlc and my rear mud guard is caput.

anyway, for those that may be interested, there it is.

This is all too common. I got a FPN, which I deserved for running a ATS, but then got a lecture from the policeman about not becoming a fatality statistic, which really made my blood boil. Almost all of us have stories about being endangered / threatened by motorists. To the best of my knowledge, cyclists are not life generally threatening to HGVs or WVM.

look out for white vans and take preemptive action by giving them a wide berth from the initial sighting.
safest to assume that the driver is a sub-100 (IQ) with violent, bordeline sociopathic, tendancies and poor impulse control. not an unfair assesment of most white van drivers.
