first, thanks to those who responded in support.
a brief follow-up: old bill did contact me (5 days later, not within the 48 hours that they'd told me originally it would be) but not to take a statement. turns out the other fucker had a little think during the course of the day, and then took himself along to the police to report that i had assaulted him! so, now, there are two investigations going on - one against him and one against me.... i don't know if he claims to have any witnesses yet, but the cops are still trying to get statements from the two names that i gave them (one was apparently out of the country last week, and the other one was a white van driver who they are trying to trace through his firm - they're not all bad, i think). we shall see what happens, but i guess that the likely thing is the case will either be dropped by both sides, or if i decide to push it, he will do the same and try to take me to court as well - in which case the CPS would probably drop it, i've been warned by the police.
GRRRRRR.
and then, another story, this time monday this week: i was cycling along the cycle route on tavistock place at a reasonable pace trying to make the next set of lights at the junction with bedford way/tavistock square when some arsehole white van driver decided to do an illegal right turn onto tavistock square, almost killing me in the process! fortunately, i managed to avoid him and found myself heading north on tavistock square, a bit shooken up. so, i slowed down to try and catch my breath again, when the same white van driver pulled up alongside me and started shouting at me about how it was alright for cyclists to turn right but not for vehicles. i pointed out it was a no right turn that he'd just disobeyed, and that he'd almost killed me, at which point he jumped out of his van and started running around to hit me. i started to cycle away as quick as i could while he followed me for a little bit before going back to his van. i didn't look back to see if he was chasing me, but got the hell out of there as fast as i could.
oh, i was wearing a flourescent yellow jacket, too, so there was no excuse for not seeing me (a bit like today when some other git who tried to run me over on my way in this morning, also on tavistock place).
be careful everyone! seems that some craziness is in the air this autumn now that people are back from their summer breaks (maybe cos they're all skint and didn't actually get a break?)
