Click on the link that says 'Private Messages' in the top right hand corner of this page.

When you have a new message your doorbell will ring.

new members may have to wait until their post count increases before private messaging privileges are activated. (because of a spate of cretins)

Doesn't sound like that'd be a good member to me? In fact, perhaps the opposite. More like a Shinscar type of member. ;)

Good point. A new member wanted to buy something off me but I couldn't PM him.

I said "potentially good", this potential goodness is corrupted by their frustration at not being able to send a PM, thus transforming them into a cockflange.

Anyone else having problems with PM's not popping up? I used to get a pop-up box stating that I have a new message, but I don't seem to get these any more, or I sometimes do/sometimes don't. The only way for me to see if I have a new message is to go to my User CP, which I wouldn't normally do unless I have a reason to, meaning I often get PMs 2-3 days late! :(

Using Opera/Firefox/Safari.

Tried checking your user CP settings?

Edit Options > Messaging & Notification > Private Messaging > " If you are browsing the forums when you receive a new private message, the system can pop-up a notification box informing you of the new message.
Show New Private Message Notification Pop-up"

^ Make sure that's ticked.

Best to never open any Private Messages (PMs), as inevitably (as almost said below) those messages are about an unhealthy love for you, or threatening the death of you. Also, never accept any friend requests, as these are internet grooming tools, and the senders will ask to meet you in a park late at night, or a supermarket carpark at 2am.

Off hand, I'd say start here. I find he has such a unique syntax, that its very easy to locate him. Plus, he does give the odd clue.
