No idea yet, in the best possible way I make this shit up as I go along.

Can we have updates from the popcorn thread added?
Sounds like a smart thing to do ;)
The mailing list will be created tomorrow... I always do things slowly to make sure you know it's happening :)

Just got my newsletter a bit earlier, too. It's a nice way of directing people towards happening things in the morass of threads.

BTW, If anyone has suggestions for content then just let me know.
The next one will go soonish (within a week or so) and at the moment it's just about the action group that was set up and a few reminders about things already mentioned. If you know of anything that I should be covering and telling almost 10,000 people about, then please tell me.

Buy one get one free on Creme Eggs at Tesco?
Or, how about promoting your club night a bit? I'm sure no one will resent you using the news letter to drum up custom and some of the people who only read the classifieds might not know about it yet.

wayne also suggested that. I'm so poo at promotion... doing stuff = fine, promoting it = fail.
But yeah, now it's been pointed out it seems obvious and I shall make sure that I pimp myself around appropriately.
Speaking of...

Come to ours.
All you have to do is drink beer and have a dance if you feel like it. Simples.
In the next day or so I'll be activating a news mailing list.
The purpose of this is to help you stay informed with what is happening within the community without you having to read every thread on the forum.
It will be a low-noise email list, with a message going out at maximum once a week, but it's far more likely that it will be send out fortnightly or monthly.
The kind of thing you can expect the mailing list to let you know?
Events
Rides
Races
Parties and BBQ's
Bike Polo championships
Track days
Jumble sales
News
Road safety incidents
Mainstream news (mayor pissing around with us, etc)
LFGSS news
Community stuff
T-shirts and other merchandise
Competitions
Anything that majorly affects the site
Bikes and bits
If we've seen stuff at bargain prices
New products that may be of interest
I'm sure you get the idea.
Hopefully it will just be a summary to give you a 15-30 minute run down of everything that's happened or about to happen so that you stay in the loop.
Now, I'm using a dedicated piece of mailing list software for this, because doing so means you can unsubscribe easily and it will remove you if your messages bounce, etc. All well and good, but I need to load email addresses into that system from this forum.
And this is the point of this post... if you do NOT wish to be on the mailing list when it is created first thing Monday morning, then you should go to the Edit Options page of your UserCp:
http://www.londonfgss.com/profile.php?do=editoptions
And on that page you should opt out of receiving email from Administrators.
You were given that option when you registered, but I just want to make sure you know it's there now so that you're now subscribed without wanting to be.
Additionally, I'm making un-subscribing as easy as possible and every message sent from the news list will contain a footer explaining very quickly how to get yourself off the mailing list.
Anyhow, there you are... it's all in place, and I'll do some testing tomorrow whilst the TdF is on and we'll launch it next week.
