Wanted: 40mm reach front brake

Posted on
  • I need a front brake with a reach of 40mm, preferably a silver one.

    Thanks,
    George

  • Don't you have a brake at all, or is your current brake just a bit too long.

In case the difference is just a few mm, you can do the following.
It it easy and it can give you 1-5mm extra space.

Take a round spacer, pref. alu.
outer diam approx 10mm or more, inner diameter 6mm, 6.5mm, thichness 6 to 10mm. Most of the times this kind of washer is supplied with your brakes.
Take a file and angle one side. One side should stay flat, the other side taper. Remove nothing on the topside (example) and approx. 3mm on the bottom.
When you place this tapered/angled washer between frok crown and brake arch and the nut is tightened, the brake arch will be fixed to the front fork, but it will also go a bit higher or lower than usual.
If you place the thin part of the angled washer upwards, you brake will go a bit upwards, too.

Maybe in this way you can use your current brake.

Otherwise, keep looking for an Aero Gran Compe

  • Yeah i do have a brake and the drop is a little too long, thanks i'll try this, however, i was told at brixton cycles that this might weaken the brake too much?

    Thanks,
    George
