  • yes, running old one as initially it worked, it all went wrong when I updated to 3.5.. will try it out again, can I keep on chrome doing that? says chrome is attached to Mozilla?

  • Chrome is Google's browser. What do you mean "attached"?

Perhaps there's an issue with Java and Norton Internet Pain Service..
" I had to disable Java Quick Starter 1.0 to get Firefox 3.5.3 to even start with Norton IPS 2.0 enabled."

You can uninstall and reinstall as often as you like. I just want to see if it gets any further with that extension folder removed.

  • I just saw "chrome Mozilla" and thought they must be connected, sorry, pc illiterate! :)

  • Not sure what that's about, although "chrome" is another term for browser UI, like the Stop Go buttons and the URL bar etc.. ignore it, they're separate apps.

Once you've tried the reinstall.. here's some steps to try if it still doesn't run..

  • @ rod, disabled Norton, did nothing

  • Do you have Google Desktop installed?

  • no, no add ons

  • It's a separate appl. Check Control Panel > Add Remove Programs for it..

  • hippy, ive removed all Java from my pc, zilch..did that before as it was showing in the crash reports, re-booted after, same thing, nothing..

  • Try this..

Get the crash report. (See Firefox crashes when you open it )

Wait for the crash report to finish processing if necessary. If it's taking an unusually long amount of time, you may have typed in the wrong report ID.

Once you have the report open, click on the Modules tab at the top of the page.

This is a list of all the modules that are loaded with Firefox. Look for modules that have no version information (the second column is blank). If you do not see any such modules, you do not have Backdoor.Ulrbot.C, please try other solutions on this page.

  • Oh, did you try renaming the firefox.exe thing?

  • It's a separate appl. Check Control Panel > Add Remove Programs for it..

I have google toolbar for IE- thats it

  • Ok forget the Google Desktop thing.

  • Oh, did you try renaming the firefox.exe thing?

    working on that now..

  • Yeah, I'd piss Norton off completely if it were me. I run AVG and am a 'careful' downloader. No issues.

  • hippy, I changed the file name to firefox1 and I got into it in safe mode! woot..

  • its working now perfectly in normal mode.

    Hippy, you're a bloody legend!

beers all nite coming your way, thank you SO much! :)

  • thank you to everyone else for your suggestions, much appreciated !

  • Nice.

That means either your Norton or Sygate shit is blocking Firefox.exe and you should try to add it to their respective Exclusion lists or find updates/fixes for them or uninstall them and use something else.

    OR

You have some form of anti-FF malware on your machine in which case these two links might be useful:

  • I'll have my secretary prepare your invoice now...

    ;)

  • Fucking Norton.

I've used AVG and Avast in the past which have been good - Norton was dire. Haven't had an AV installed for the past year or so now thought...

  • I use AVG at home and one some work machines. I disable its link checking thing and find it pretty good. I'm a careful browser though and can spot malware and shit a mile off. YMMV

  • I'll check Norton and Sygate and see what I can find. Also check those links

    so relieved.

    thanks again ..

    I'll await my invoice :)

  • I wandered through an IT helpdesk last year and the call script appeared to be...

    1) What is your name?
    2) Are you using AOL?
    3) Are you using Norton?
    4) Uninstall
    5) End call
