Start > Run > type "eventvwr" click Application and see what errors/warnings are being reported. What are they?
Standalone PC or is this on a network? If network, do you have a roaming profile, ie. are your settings stored on a remote server?
Also, try reinstall Firefox after uninstalling Java.

If you double click the error line that has App Hang, then click the 3rd button under the Up and Down arrows (Copy), this will copy the error text to clipboard. Paste it here.

have you tried task manager, kill any FF process still on the go, as was suggested earlier?
-
• #33
Ctrl-Shift-Escape to bring up Task Manager and then look for anything called Firefox.exe.
End Process.
Then try Start > Run > "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -safe-mode
-
• #34
there are no apps running in task manager pertaining to firefox, already checked

Are you in London? I need to get out for a ride today so I could have a look at it if you're somewhere in town?
-
• #36
nope not today, but could you help another day if you're free? weekday or weekend?
-
• #37
Start > Run > "%APPDATA%\Mozilla\" and then right click Profiles and make sure nothing is Read-Only.
Uncheck Read-Only and set to Apply to subfolders and files.I can help another day, sure.
-
• #38
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -safe-mode
tried that and it still wont open in safe mode
-
• #39
Also, do Start > Run > "%APPDATA%\Mozilla\" and then see if there's any Crash Reports folder?
If there's some crash reports, could you send 'em or post 'em?

With Firefox completely closed, open the application folder (by default, C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox on Windows) rename firefox.exe to firefox1.exe, then double-click firefox1.exe. If Firefox runs without problems, it could indicate that your firewall is blocking Firefox. It may also indicate that some malicious code has targeted Firefox. Note: If firefox.exe is always open, specific malware may have targeted Firefox if it is set as the default browser.
There's more stuff here..

If Internet Explorer and Safari can't be opened either, then presumably a FF specific error is not the root cause?
What happens when you try launch IE (and which version is it)?
-
• #42
Check Windows Firewall isn't blocking it.
Do you have any other firewall software installed? Add Firefox as an exception..
-
• #43
ok, I have norton and a use sygate firewall ....
Used these for years with no issues, my PC is on all the time.
I have installed and can open chrome fine, working well.
When I try and open safari or IE, they initially open, then poof- vanish...
Mozilla doesn't open at all, I just get crash reports.
-
• #44
Was about to suggest Chrome, FF was lagging and kept playing up too much. Chrome's smoother and faster and hardly ever crashes.
-
• #45
have you tried shutting norton off for a few mins to test without that running yet?
-
• #46
Both Norton and Sygate should be able to add applications as exceptions.
Have you tried renaming the firefox.exe yet?Try the thing I PM'd you too.

Chrome fucks up ebay and I use FF for development so I need both. Chrome is nice and fast though.

• #48
Did you move this (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\extensions{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}) to another location, as per PM?
-
• #49
yes, moved, and sent you PM, no diff...
-

Fuck chips.
That should've worked. Try getting the latest version from their website as an installer exe and run that. 3.5.3 is the latest version. You're running 3.0.14
Could this be a virus?
