For the road, I currently live in Newcastle and work hard in Morissons byker and go to Northumbria, and love bikes, I just want something nice I can use on the road to commute to University. I like the old school look but like lightweight

Planet x or the new Dave hinde frame.
But that as rpm says would be a choice for the track.
I'll sell you my Bob Jackson for £300 of you like?

Bob Jackson is nearby, you can try and go there to get a custom build bike.
steel frame are pretty lights, even the standard Reynolds 631.

If you had 400 to 500 pounds to spend on a frame what would you get, I want a Bianchi pista concept but cant find any.
Any ideas what else is good?THANKS YOU GUYSSSSSSSS
Unless you really wanna go fixed I personally would just get an early 90s racer that has been looked after and you have a decent nice looking bike that doesn't cost a bomb to ride to University and back from. (Oh and they are fast).

Agree. Alu track frames tend to be overbuilt to make very stiff and don't usually work out that light (not compared to alu road frames any way)
I have had 2 alu track frames and they were both around 1700g which is not much lighter than steel. The areas where weight can be added on a steel frame is the fork (vs a carbon one on alu frame) and the quill stem and screw on headset (if using a quill stem) Of course you could use a carbon ahead fork on a steel frame but missing the point a bit imo.
