  • Nitroglycerin is UCI-legal.

  • but who can you trust? Wiggins? Yes, I think so. Cancellara? Mmm, wouldn't put any money on it.

i was blown away by cancellara, but it also made me think - why does no one ever say that he's on drugs?
    I

    er

  • I am going to win the worlds ... it is quite obvious.

  • er

sorry, yes - you were there with the knowing winks and the cynicism.

  • I recently found a bunch of cycling mags in my flat from six and seven years ago. The cover stars were Tyler Hamilton, Jan Ullrich, Roberto Heras...and Lance Armstrong. Guess what the 'cynics' were saying about them at the time.
I have doubts about Cancellara though his dominance isn't the main reason; he's another of Riis' proteges and another rider who I don't think has ever said anything convincing about being opposed to drug taking. The trouble is you just don't know anymore so you end up with a kind of sporting Pascal's wager.

i agree, i reckon he might like the drugs.
But, and this was more the point i was making - no one really minds because he's charming and popular and people want to believe in him more than they do in some others.

  • Cancellara garners neutral opinion regarding doping.

People don't go cuckoo over Cancellara's hypothetical doping.

People feel safe investing in his innocence.

    That sort of thing.

  • "It's like trying to win the Champions League - you need to be at Manchester United but I'm playing at **Wigan **at the moment so I have to make that step up." - Bradley Wiggins

Yeh I noticed that too; very harsh given how badly Wigan are playing this year I'd have thought. I'm surprised he thinks a novice team like Sky are more likely to help him win the tour than Garmin; putting my cynic's hat on again I wonder just what sort of a salary Sky have mentioned? I'd hate him to go to Sky because as the tattoo on my arse says "Only idiots work for Rupert Murdoch".

  • Er... Cancellara's a fonduementally affable rider.

  • He's certainly on a roll...

  • I, er, gruyere.

  • Emmentaly my dear Watson

  • ^ Just trolling. He's a superb rider, and perhaps similar questions need to be asked at this race's top finishers as at the TdF.

    er

Oi! I did register doubts about the top riders, too. :)

I think in another thread I said: 'If Cancellara's legit, he's a monster.'

But what can you do without proof?

  • Watching the womens RR at the mo. Wet circuit, low temps, crashes and incidents. Many splits/groups. Up in the leading bunch is Jeannie Longo and at 50 deserves much respect.

Emma Pooley working hard on the front supported by Sharon Laws and Lizzie Armistead. Sun's coming out.

  • How about telling us who crashed and stop talking about Britain's chances, you commentator cock?

  • Live coverage on Eurosport, BBC web site and 5 Live Sport. Highlights on BBC 1 at 1pm today.

  • Here, at last, the explanation why Nicole Cooke was DNF.

    DNF Nicole Cooke (Slovenia)

It looks as if the team switch was a little ill-advised. ;)

  • And does Jeannie Longo really start for the Russian Federation now?

    48 Jeannie Longo-Ciprelli (Russian Federation) 3:45:34
Surely someone needs to check their computer?

  • Nicole Cooke - she didn't crash, she just didn't have the legs. From Eurosport.

  • And does Jeannie Longo really start for the Russian Federation now?

    Lost in translation ;o)

  • The Beeb are covering the mens race tomorrow - I thought the scalextric racing would have got in the way but:

    Wigan 3 - 1 Chelsea

A sign of things to come? :P

  • Bloody hell. The latics must have started doping.
