Yep, start selling some low value items first. Maybe buy a few things too.
Include as many pics and as much description as possible in your auction listing.
BTW a tip to get around fees for pictures is just to upload them to a site like Photobucket and link to them from there. Saves a few quid. For example here's one of my recent listings:
