  • Following the success of the last leaving East London ride I am proposing a simpler version be run on Saturday 17th of October

The ride will be based on a traditional club run , going at a steady pace and with no one getting dropped.

It will be a morning only ride , leaving at 9.15 and back by 1 pm with stop for tea and cakes at least once during the ride.

As its a saturday in East London , we need to leave early to avoid the worst of the traffic , so I propose that we meet up at at the Deli/Cafe in Orford Rd in Walthamstow for 9am and that we then leave at 9.15 on the dot.

The proposed route will be to go out through Epping to Moreton or Matching green and then back via Ongar and Ivy Chimmeys to Toot Hill , Abridge , Chigwell, Woodford and Walthamstow. Any of you who did the 1st Leaving East London will recognise the route. We may also deviate en route if more cake is required. I 'll keep the route rolling rather than hilly.

Any offers of help to share the leading or to act as a back stop would be welcomed

If this works I d like to suggest we run a montly saturday morning run over the winter out to Essex and back

  • Nice one, Edward.

Sorry I won't be able to come.

  • Is it flat?

  • Out to Matching Green its a steady climb or rolling

Coming back might be a bit lumpy in places.

Did you do the last one ?

  • ''lumpy' !

    Sounds good.

I've jinxed myself adding my name to lists and not turning up to things. So I'm not going to add myself.

  • Nah, but I've done Dover, so anything less hilly than that would be appreciated.

  • It's not as lumpy as Kent. There are no escarpments in Essex.

really enjoyed the last one so count me in .. will try not to get lost this time!

  • The route will not be as perverse as Oliver's . He did seem to make a virtue of taking the most circuitous route to a destination.

  • Is this a road ride, or off road?

    Gears or single/fixed?

Pffft. Only the most beautiful lanes.

It's not my fault that land ownership patterns have made them rather less direct than Roman roads. :)

And this was the elevation profile--appearing rather less severe than on Bikely:

It was too long, though, at 65 miles. I certainly should have cut out the loop to Matching Green as it was getting late. A major logistical fail on my part was not taking lights.

    road

    whichever takes your fancy

  • +1

My new Bob Jackson will be ready for a good run by this date.

  • Will definitely try to make this but fear I might have other obligations. Really enjoyed the last one and a nice AM ride sounds good.

  • If the tandem is ship shape and bristol fashion in time this ride may be its inaugral run. Anyone fancy taking turns stoking and helmsmanning?

  • i am allowed to put my name in the list guys ? you have to cover me with bubble wrap this time , i enjoyed the last one was sad that i finished it with a broken collarbone

  • Please do

But do eat and drink this time !

  • Yes please. Fasting and distance rides don't mix.

I generally try to fast one day a week for nerdy discipline and health reasons and I notice a difference in daily activities. I wouldn't attempt to ride anything more than my commute on those days.

  • I don't mind riding backstop for all or part of this.

  • Thanks

I ll do some more work on the route this week

Are people happy to meet in Walthamstow? The Deli-cafe does reasonable coffee and would be a good place to meet before we head off. Its a slight detour from the Lea Bridge Road, but we can go out via either the Lea Bridge or Forest Roads from there.

And I do want the ride to leave on time; the roads get busy and unpleasant after 10.00 and I d like us to be at Epping by 10 .

  • I have been meaning to do a ride out this way. I am tentatively in.

the tandem is finished bar a little tinkering, my girlfriend may be away on the day so may be looking for a stoker.
