Are we fighting to save the Human Race? ultimately we will become extinct like other dominant life forms / civilisations that have existed, are we just trying to slow down this process...
We will go and we'll take a good few species with us, dinosaurs had their comet and we are probably the next catastrophic event, the Earth will recover and we will be replaced.
