  • considering trying some of these out, maybe the fizik ones.
anyone had any experience with them? are they worth the money?
    do they bulge out noticeably?

  • I think it's good, I have some on my road bike. Not too much bulge and if you wrap tighlty you have some nice cushy bars...

  • I have no experience with those, so I have nothing to say here.

  • I've got some and I really like them. They are easy to cut down and use + I've reused the same set on different bars. I've used them with fizik tape, thin carbon-look tape, and cinelli cork tape. The combination with cork tape is perhaps a little too cushi. SJScycles and ProBikeKit do a cheaper version from Cinelli, not sure how many strips are included though.

  • they're brilliant, especially under leather brooks tape, which has no padding at all. easy to use, huge effect, if anything it makes the bar tape look better for being slightly fatter.

  • I love them. We even used them on the female rider's saddle during the RAAM this year.

    wtf?

  • i got some from the spez bar phat tape and i use them on the top of the curves of the drops

very nice, but i still get a bit of pain in the middle of my palms

  • definetly better than nothing though

  • Can we have some links (for the good ones) please?

I've seen a few different types but most of them look quite pricey for little piece of gel .

  • Fizik is a tenner for 4 shaped pieces of gel. not expensive

  • i use them on the tops of my drop bars,i get a fatter bar area to rest my forearms and its alot more comfortable.

  • just ordered the fizik pad and tape kit. will let you know how i get on

  • i bought a set of bar tape that came with some gelpads, i fail at remembering the make, but it was a very soft and almost fluffy tape. the pads cost almost the same alone so it was a good deal in evans at ldn bridge as i recall.

i use much tougher tape now, but i still use the pads underneath as i love to have a bit of a fat hanldebar to hold on to rather then a tiny stick.

another thing, as i use low risers with tape, i found the tape to move outwards and slip off at the end due to the gelly, ever so gentle movement the pads allow. (highgate hill does that to you, as does bitchling beacon) fixing the pads with a bit of electro tape and the use double sided sticky tape underneath the bartape keeps everything nicce and tight for ages.

  • just noticed^
i think i had the fizik pack. i liked it, grippy, but it wasn't as tough as i need it to be.

  • fitted the fizik stuff last night and it was nice and comfy this morning riding into work.
will have to see how they hold up

My last lot survived a couple Norwegian winters. The Cippolini zebra tape, I'm using at the moment is'nt copeing with autumm too well. Probably a more authentic zebra colour now though :).
