... as well as his knees? He's having a bad day...

  • Earthquakes can do that to both knees and bikes.

  • aw man reaally? they can also crack dropouts ive experienced.

  • Crack dropouts I've experienced.

  • yeah man, dropouts are the new roach clip.

  • fuck that crocodile clip shite - roll it fat and smack it in a campy

  • hahaha lol, might have found a new frame....
at least the rest of my bike is ok!
changing the subject, are continental gator skins any good?
i just put one on my rear, and its so fucking grippy i cant skid...

  • Before Hippy gets here: Continental tyres are shit!

I have Continental Gatorskins on my fixolord(TM) and not had any holes in over 1000 miles. May just have been lucky though... and I don't skid much either.

  • There's a new Conti tyre called the SuperSport (I think) coming out that is less grippy. And it's cheaper

  • super sport plus.... i have a pair on my bike, and they seem to be holding up quite nicely!

  • Hey Guys,

i dont think that someone else have ever had this issue before, ever. So i know that my search skillz are correct cause i cant find anything on the matter.

I fell over today (first time out on the road in Cleates and SPDs) at at set of traffic lights. I then realised there was a new sound (as in, there wasnt any before) that timed with the rotation of my rear wheel.

Turns out my 'finely tuned' brake pads are now rubbing over a groove in my new ambrosia rims breaking surface. Im upset that have have managed to hurt my new baby and want to love and care for it until the groove disappears.

Please help. Any ideas on un-grooving rims?

  • take pads off, file any metal fragments off them, replace.
do this every month and you'll prevent grooves.
same applies to disk brakes on cars although that's much more work.

  • Im guessing youre referring to the filing of the brake pads? This is a vertical groove on the rim itself that makes a 'tick' sound everytime my wheels goes round and round, round and round, round and round... I got it in the fall.

So i dont think its the brake pad that needs attention.

  • ahh ok then, flatten the groove in the rim then. how hard can it be ?

  • The 'groove' is the join in the rim.

During your fall your caliper may have been twisted round slightly meaning it is now off-centre to the rim. Try centering it again, you might just be able to do it by hand, i.e. do it without loosening the allen bolt holding the caliper in place.

  • Unfortunately, i checked that it was the join, and its not. The join is still smooth. This is a proper gouge.

Im not sure how hard, but i dont want to do more damage and hoping that the infinite knowledge this forum has would point out any issues with attempting something that could hurt it further.

Ill fiddle with the pad try to softly flatten it.

But guys, thank you for your help. Ill also try not to fall over again. That is going to be a challenge as i always used to fall over even when my feet werent bolted to the pedals.

  • smooth it off with some gentle filling...

    or

if it's dented, bend it back gently with pliers first

  • Take a pic? It sounds that there is now a bump sticking out?

  • yep take a picture - no one has any idea what is happening.

  • Im currently at work, but the moment i have a chance i will take a photo of the offending gouge.

  • I've got some brand new Dominators with brand new cleats, and when I pull up hard with my left foot it makes a little click sound. I've tightened it as hard as I can with a bit of grease on the threads, and also tightened the pedal. Any ideas? As I'm typing this I'm thinking it might be the pedal actually, they were second hand... Surely this would only happen half of the time though, on one side of the pedal?

  • defo coming from the pedals, they are worn, ive had this quite a few times lol. Ive played around with them but the only thing i can tell you is to get a new pair, i even tried throwing them on the pavement to see if it would shut up but nope.
