My LBS changed out the bottom bracket on my SS last week - the old one was a 103mm (Sugino crankset) and they had a problem finding a replacement so used a UN54 - the shortest Shimano do is 107mm. They were totally upfront about this and they're good guys so I'm not pissed off with them at all.
However, it's all got a bit rattly since, so I was thinking of popping in a 2mm spacer to push out the freewheel. Is this a numpty bodge or cool to do? Putting the chain ring behind the crank spider puts the chainline out the other way, so that's not really an option.
