YES YES! all over it -

You fixes are a bit crazy, i must stop elbowing the new guys or at least let them get their balance first. Seriously, great site. Does anyone know the term 44-16 and how it relates to single speed?

it tells you your Gear Inches. 44t on the front cog 16t on the back, the ratio between front cog and rear cog increase/reduce the force needed to turn the pedals. 44/16 is ideal for london

  • Is it a Mk2 golf that you drive?

Good luck in finding your parts :)

Good guess, and you'd be right but it's a Cabriolet so they ran to '93 along side the Mk2's :)

Thanks, I've been speaking to a lot of people about wheels, didn't think they'd be so expensive to be honest, I don't want rubbish - but I'm not looking to spend £100's at least not on my first bike anyways!

Do they come up for sale often?

I only guessed as my dad's mk2 is the same age :P

They do come up often but you got to be quick if it's a bargain otherwise ebay :P Just keep an eye on this. I've seen 50 people online at 5am sometimes browsing that!

    The car if you're interested..

  • Area's good, you're almost in central london, you should go to the north drinks to meet some of the forumengers!
If you look in the classifieds, there's some good bargains to be had I got a full geared road bike for £110, also JD a member here has some sweet bikes going up for sale soon.

    Welcome everyone :P

Thanks for the welcome. My eyes are open for the good deals will speak to JD

  • Um Hi there, this will be my first flurry into replying on to a thread, I have been encouraged to log on via my brother in-law as he has a ss and I am about to build/ convert one. Am I mad? !

  • Evenin'. Long time lurker who's fucked his knee & won't really be riding properly again till after surgery in November (BMX hurts).
Been cycling my whole life really, Road, MTB, Time Trials & BMX, been riding fixed for about 18months or so.
Thought I'd while away some time on here while I'm broken! Give me a wave if you see a knackered, tattooed old man screaming in pain as he pedals slowly around Nottingham.

  • well don't go that fast and you won't get crazy lol

Thats sounds pretty cool, yellow though - pm me some pics of it?

It is... thats my front garden... one of them.. ;)

Or it might be Coombe Abbey in Coventry.. who knows!?

  • Haven't got any pics, I should take some really. I just have one where I was 8 and the paint was untouched :P

  • We really should start a LFGSS dubbers forum! I miss my Mk2 :-(

  • I miss my VR6.

    :(

Had more hits than Elvis, that buggy.

  • Yeha take some :)

    We should do Booga!

As well as being on this forum, i'm on about 3 other vw ones, and I'm a committee member (web manager) of the mk1 owners club.. which is massive.. 16,000 members - 1.2 millions hits a month, etc etc.. pretty hectic - bit like this place!

  • Well, if there's a car one, why not make a VW one?
    I have a Mk2 Scirocco Storm from Dad, but it's offroad as I can't drive :P

  • I have a Mk2 Scirocco Storm

Niiceee. Your dad has good taste!

  • Thanks, we probs should stop talking about cars on here haha.

  • Yeah maybe.. the whole point of the bike is to save the car, ironic really? haha

  • Hi all!
new meat here in search first bike.

  • Hey Everyone!

My name is James and I am completely new to fixed gear bikes. I am looking to buy one this weekend/next week but only have about £250 to spend. I would love to get some advice of you guys? I was going to get one from Fellio but have read some terrible reviews on this site so was wondering what my other options were? Any good places to get second hand ones for this price in the London area?

    Thanks alot

  • Buy a second hand bike off this site.

  • Ok, I really am a beginner should I just keep an eye out for anyone selling for £250 or under? Would that get me a decent one?

  • This chap sold a well nice bike at £250, worth way more than that IMO: http://www.londonfgss.com/thread29484.html

Also, if someone's prices are too high they will be slated: http://www.londonfgss.com/thread29971.html

The forum price patrol usually doesn't hold back so you almost always get a good deal.
