  • Sorry I can't make it tonight, However I started a facebook group some time ago to try to raise awareness, but ran out of time to run it properly

    http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=28903548493

Feel free to use it to promote the cause/spread the word etc

Has anyone contacted any other cycling forums?

  • Tonight --
When you get to the school sign in with security and they will point you to the lecture theatre.

There is 'some' bike parking accessible via security, if you want to lock your bike there try and do so in groups otherwise security get hasseled.

Please give a £1 donation for school. We'll find something to put this in tonight.

Anyone got any flip chart paper/pens?

    Any volunteers to take notes?

There is no tea or coffee etc.

  • i won't be able to make it to london tonight, but would really love to be involved, so if there is anything i can do...

  • Sorry have to bail to, consider my services/skills available if/when you need them though.

  • Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum but would love to help out with the campaign in any way. I'm a recent goldsmiths graduate and have skills in media, editing design and making films. I can't make it to the meeting tonight but will follow up on the minutes and posts. I have also been recently researching and putting together a proposal for a documentary on cycling deaths/ghost bikes in london, which I'm trying to get funding for, so if anyone wants to help out or is thinking of doing something similar it would be great to get in touch, jen

  • Hope it went well, keen to hear what happened...

  • Hope it went well, keen to hear what happened...

    Ditto.

  • dittox2

  • Sorry I couldn't make it. Looking forward to readin the write-up.

  • We had a very constructive and inspiring meeting. More notes to follow soon, no doubt.

  • I would love to help out but life is majorly taking a turn for the stressful at the moment, I still have plans to complete my ghost bike book, and get it out to various HGV training schools etc... will post more details later

  • Interim Brief feedback from the meeting. Loads of great ideas flying around.

We need to all have a central message.
    What is it?
‘’Reduce cyclists deaths by HGVs to zero’’:

    • We are campaigning to stop HGVs killing cyclists.
    • We want to restrict HGVs in city centres.
    • Cyclists cant share with lethal lorries that don’t 'see' them.

We agreed on a number of work groups:
    · Direct Action Group – demos, protest, rides, stickers, public awareness, promoting cause
    · *PR/ Design/Comms *- T-shirts, events, armbands, rides, stickers, website, forum, wiki...
    · Media/Film – producing film
    · Lobbying - pushing policy, MPs, govt
    · Data/Enforcement/Legal – location of collision spots, data collected at collision - collate and present to show trends and use as communication tool. Legal hurdles/solutions - enforcing new restrictions/requirements.

All the groups came up with a spoke/chair and will communicate the actions they
    came up with.

Still discussing the best way to open all this information to everyone.

Please have a look and see which work group you can join.

    More to follow..

  • appologies for the no show, the location put it too far out to make the appointment i had after. keep me updated and include me in the Direct Action group please

  • Dear All

Thank you so much for trecking across London to spend your precious time with us last night. Those who couldnt make it thank you for you offers of help.

What we need to do now is ensure we dont loose momentum and make sure we have a communication system that captures every issue and every person. We need a group of people who can devise this - lead by velocio and adam? (who I was talking to last night).

We envisage a working live network divided into the working groups we created last night, and managed by a leader - are the leaders last night happy to continue leading, or otherwise the groups can decide themselves if there is an obvious leader.

It is really important for the leader to have the time and inclination to take control of that group, pick up all the offers of help and organise how they are going to collect their issues, choose their priorites and organise their action and most importantly feed back to the rest of the group. They could nominate a deputy to help. I envisaged each group has a list of members with their skills - like we did on the orginal list - and then each group meeting (probably in person at least at first) and working out their action. And then the leader feeds back to everyone once a month - maybe the last monday of each month - their issues, and we can all vote on any decisisons by the friday of that week.

An example: we need a logo, and we need stickers. The design group meets, with everyone bringing their proposals (but also starting off with what already exists and has been done by others - this isnt a new problem - I have seen at least 3 existing sticker designs already) the group plays with the ideas, decides on the top three. The top three are fed back, by the leader, for everyone to vote on. By the friday of the last week of the month we have a result. Then we can all go and and post our stickers (also need to decide how to source, print and distribute them - dont forget about these admin/implimentation issues as well - the best ideas are no good if we cant bring them all the way to fruition).

And meanwhile the direct action group are coming up with their top 3 proposals of direct action eg where and when we do a guerilla sticker dump eg a windscreen sized bike on each hgv windscreen we see with a strapline 'Now can you see me?', or targeting specific companies like turning up at crossrail one day and blasting their trucks...

So we have co-ordinated, planned action that we all buy into, and that is as hard hitting as possible. We need to be coherent, we dont want one group running off doing stuff that others disagree with. We have to stay united and empowered.

So if the group leaders can email their conclusions of their workign group discussions last night to me at whathappenedonfeb5@ymail.com I will write them up and post them.

Meanwhile we need to set up a system so the groups can communicate with their members and everyone who couldnt make the meeting can sign up to their relevant group or groups (if the group becomes to big or diverse the leader just splits it in two, and allocates new leaders.) It is imperative that each group nominates one person to collect the main points and report back otherwise we will degenerate into chat and no action. Velocio and Adam and whoever can you work that out? maybe you need a comms/systems/network group to decide the best way. We need people in that group who can handle data, and distribute and organise. We dont wnat to re-invet the wheel so we need an area where we can put up all the kinds of info that we talked about last night, like the original 'no witness no justice' campaign, or the existing work at lambeth training all drivers and all the stuff that roadpeace is doing etc etc.

Ok? Email me your stuff asap and Ill write it up and post it. I have time today but going back up north friday when I will be struggling for time.

So, in conlusion, all this info that is coming in I, and anyone else, can just forward it to the relevant group to deal with and we should just run along ourselves like a well oiled machine....

I feel so relieved, like a massive weight of my shoulders. THANK YOU. I hope it works.

  • There's a really good project management website out there, called Huddle.

it might be helpful in co-ordination
    http://www.huddle.net/

  • Can I suggest that instead of people posting their allegience to a particular working group that an open poll may be of more use. People vote on a single working group that they would like to be in (and PM the leader of any other's if they really want to do more than one) and the leaders can start by collecting names from there. It'll probably get confusing otherwise.

Too nuts... too complex. I'm opting for stuff people know already and are comfortable using.

This won't be organised on LFGSS.

I've got a communications plan and it's being put into action over the next day or two.

Essentially there is going to be 1 website that does this:
    1) For the supporters/followers or those interested... a public front page informs them of key things that have happened, press, lobbying, etc.
    2) For the supporters/followers or those interested... an email list in which "news" announcements will be posted.
    3) For those involved in the action group and working groups a Wiki (same as Wikipedia) will allow all of the information to be gathered and managed.
    4) For those involved in the action group and working groups, a number of email lists will be created to allow for the discussion/organisation to take place... anything that gets agreed should be put into the wiki so that it becomes public

So it's pretty simple, if you're involved and active you communicate and work in your small groups via email, which everyone already has, and via the Wiki when you need to share and work on things.

If your role is simply a support, someone willing to help with lobbying, spreading the word, etc... then you just subscribe to the RSS of the blog and there will be an "announce" email list that lets you know when that gets updated, etc.

Communications will be kept simples, and this will be put in place very soon.

We need to remember that not everyone is on LFGSS, not everyone is fluent with discussion forums and web 2.0 applications, and the technology is second to getting things done.

So with that in mind... simple tools that people know brought together to get things done.
