Why in a blue fuck are you in the miscellaneous section then! . . .
its a silly question because you already have your answer. You prefer the first, not sure which one you saw first, but the remake is inferior because, it has nothing to do with italy, it don't have michael caine, the music isn't as good - original scored by quincy jones if you didn't know, and the script for the second is just abysmal. The first was a film that became a classic, the 2nd just hollywood looking for another vehicle for a star - in this case mark wahlberg, with a script hacked together that adds nothing to the sum total of film history, apart from the fact that it was made and people watched it.
Remakes generally are just designed to make money, they don't excite, or intrigue or make you wonder whats gonna happen next, because you already know because the stories already been written, and films aren't theatre, people aren't gonna go see the same thing again and be enthralled because the sets have changed and there are different actors. And the writing isn't a patch on shakespeare.
Personally the question didn't need to be asked because there really is no comparison like point blank with lee marvin or payback with mel gibson, or planet of the apes with charlton heston or planet of the apes with mark wahlberg (again) or the pointless shot for shot remake of psycho by gus van sant. One film is infinitely superior because it was made with no reference to anything but itself, a complete work in and of itself, the remake always has to refer in someway shape or form to what came before, either consciously or unconsciously, and this usually makes it inferior, and usually thats because the writing is deficient, and anyway film making is a hugely collaborative effort and it takes a lot of luck, skill and dedicated, gifted people to make a work good/great, and that combination is difficult/impossible to recreate decades later.
I'm sure there are plenty of remakes which may surpass the original, and I'm sure if anyone has the inclination or will power to read another of your threads and answers coherently, could point them out.
it.
